Despite many pitfalls, I am determined in my quest for a fully functional personal video recorder.

If there weren't a big empty space in my entertainment center where my DSR6000 normally sits, I would probably give the Philips DirecTV TiVo unit an unequivocal thumbs up despite my nit picks. The idea of combining these two set-top boxes into one is not only spatially efficient, but the features of the two devices are integrated (unlike with some hybrid devices that seem to randomly lump together two objects). Unfortunately, there is that tragic flaw of all integrated devices: When part of it breaks down, you have to replace or repair the entire unit. In this case it has led to tragic consequences. As I patiently await my replacement unit, I must revert to the most dreaded of analog TV reception methods: bunny ears.
