Despite many pitfalls, I am determined in my quest for a fully functional personal video recorder.

Despite the string of bad luck I had with the DSR6000, when it works it's fabulous. With the DSR6000, you can watch TV when you want, not when the networks dictate, and you can skip the commercials. What's not to love? I set up Season Passes for my favorite programs and didn't give it a second thought. No more spamming co-workers on Thursday mornings, begging for a taped copy of "The West Wing." If I need a flick fix, I just browse the TiVolution Magazine, which categorizes upcoming movie showings by actor, director, and categories such as classic or award winner. In fact, now that I get HBO and Cinemax with my DirecTV service, I've discontinued my Netflix membership (sorry, guys). Should the movie mood strike, I have plenty to choose from on the hard drive. There's a slight danger of spending far too much time in front of the television, of course.
