The Internet has created a new breed of young entrepreneurs.

Age/School: 9, 3rd grader at Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, North Carolina
Website: Purplepet.com

Website mission: To help pets find people and vice versa. Emily isn't on the Web to make money. She wants to provide a service.

Started: Three months ago

What got her started: Emily was out riding her bike with her Dad when they were stopped by a person asking if they'd seen a missing pet. When she got home, she asked her Dad if there was anything they could do to help people find their lost pets- and the idea of purplepet.com was hatched.

How to use purplepet.com: Go to the website and fill out a registration form if you have a lost pet, if you have found a pet, or if you want to find a home for an unwanted pet.

Growth: Purplepet.com has already received more than 200 pet registrations from around the country. It's a self-service site, so Emily doesn't know the exact numbers of pets that have found homes through her site. However, because some of the pet "parents" have sent her thank-you email notes, she does know it has helped at least a few pets find homes.

Hours devoted: Right now, Emily spends only a few hours per week on her site.

Most difficult challenge: Emily's father, Duane Bennett, has been very supportive of purplepet.com. He helped her build the site, and said the most memorable challenge so far was when a small zoo that was closing asked if they could register their "pets," including an orangutan. Dad had to draw the line there, although you can register ferrets through purplepet.com.
