Age/School: 20, Harvard junior economics major
Website address: www.fuxito.com

The business: Rich started Fuxito, a soccer site, in November 1998, when he was 18. It was incorporated in June 1999, with seed money from an angel investor. Rich got venture-capital money in his second round of financing.

What got him started: Rich, a Jamaican native, grew up playing soccer and saw firsthand the "inefficiencies involved" in recruiting soccer players. He wanted to create a site that would make this easier for both sides and wanted to extend his passion for soccer to as many people as possible

Early signs of ambition: At 12, Rich read every Warren Buffet book he could get his hands on and became a stock "guru," advising about eight "high net-worth individuals" in Jamaica.

Staff: He currently employs 15 full-time and five part-time workers.

Site delivers:

  • Breaking soccer news and interviews
  • Free recruiting service for players and coaches
  • Soccer merchandise (working on partnerships with distributors)

Growth: According to Rich, growth has been "exponential." Recently, the site had 250,000 unique visitors in one week.

Hours devoted: "About 80 to 110 hours per week- but it's not like work, this is what we enjoy doing!"

Most difficult challenge: "Finding the right people who also share the passion. Right now, our entire staff is completely passionate about soccer and Fuxito."

Tips for other entrepreneurs: Know your market and know it well. Surround yourself with people who have traction in the field (pun intended).

Other interests: Playing soccer. Rich said juggling school and work is not a problem. He made the dean's list last semester.
