Star Trek the Next Generation 2.0 and Star Trek the Original Series 2.0 are two separate games, which run independent of each other. Each player will have one Spock Market account, with two different portfolios for the two games. The monetary systems are unique to each time period and are not interchangeable. Ranks for the games are also independent of each other. Ranking high in one game has no effect on how you rank in the other.
Your Objective
Amass as many GPL and/or FDR as possible by the end of each flight of episodes by actively buying and trading stocks.
Stock Value
Events, behaviors, and plot twists in each episode of Star Trek the Next Generation 2.0 and Star Trek Classic 2.0 drive stock values up or down. Look for hints in each stock's description, prospectus, and investor forecast. In addition to subtle fluctuations, every stock is subject to Breaking Market Events, developments of such magnitude that they severely affect the value of a stock. Buyer beware.
Commissions
For every buy or sell transaction, traders are charged with a commission of percentage of the total purchase or sale. This percentage can fluctuate with the market, but generally hovers around 1%.
Tips
Buy low.
Sell high.
Embrace your inner Ferengi. (

Beam Me Up Chat Rules
The Star Trek the Next Generation 2.0 Chat Room (aka #tng20) and the Star Trek TOS chat room (aka #startrek20) should be considered PG-rated chat rooms. No foul language please. We are not going to list the words that will get you kicked out, because there are a lot, most are very nasty and frankly we wouldn't want to write them down. Suffice it to say, if the FCC would hand out a fine to a person for dropping one of these words on national television, then it is not going to be allowed in the chat room. This includes words written in Internet slang, L337 speak, Geek speak or in the language of Species-2342 of the Gamma Quadrant. Use of any of these words will result in being kicked from the chat room at the sole discretion of the chat room operators.
Advertising of any kind, including but not limited to products, services, computer or web-based programs of any kind or websites which are not germane to the subject being discussed at any given time, is strictly prohibited and can result in being kicked or banned from the room. The usage of bold, italics, underlined, color text and reverse color text are prohibited. Please also avoid repeated text, ALL CAPS and excessive punctuation.
The chat rooms are open 24/7. They are meant to be a gathering place for TNG/TOS 2.0 fans during off hours and is an active part of the interactive portion of the TNG 2.0 show when it airs.
The chat room operators, or Mods, are there to oversee the room and help when needed. These individuals are there to assist other chatters when needed, enforce the rules if need be and to maintain a small amount of order in the room. They are Star Trek fans just like you. They are not villains. If you need help or have a question, send a message to a room member with an "@" ahead of their chat room nickname. Please avoid "minimodding" by taking things into your own hands with other chat room members.
The chat room operators are managed and supervised by the show producers. The operators are not there to harass you and they are held accountable for the same rules of behavior that regular chat room users are. Perceived abuses of power should be reported to webmaster@g4tv.com. Certain instances of operators exercising power can be mistaken for harassment to the untrained eye or newcomer to the chat, so please be aware of the whole situation at hand prior to randomly reporting a behavior.
The tng20 chat room is, like the United Federation of Planets, tolerant of all people. There is a zero tolerance policy for racism or racist comments. All such offenders are permanently banned from the chat room.
Repeated violations, harassing, tormenting, threatening of the chat room users and operators or other extreme behavior may result in chatters being banned from the chat room.
Special Rule pertaining to Chat Room Operators
TNG/TOS 2.0 Chat Room operators are allowed to play the Star Trek the Next Generation 2.0 Spock Market game as casual players. The operators are asked to refrain from entering the Top 10 ranks if possible. The show producers reserve the right to limit the mod rights of or de-op any individual at their sole discretion. Chat Room operators and their immediate families are not eligible to win prizes as part of the "Tune in and Prosper Sweepstakes".
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
How come there are traders with, like 500 million GPL/FDR?
Investors who joined the market early benefited from the initial rush on several popular stocks (JLP, DTA, etc), buying several shares at 30 GPL each and later selling them for thousands more. Many of these traders also spend a lot of time finessing their portfolios and trading continuously during episodes. Active traders thrive in the Spock Market.
-
Can players use scripts or automated programs to trade?
Players may not use scripts or automated programs of any kind to create an unfair trading advantage. Any users caught doing so will have their accounts deleted.
-
How can I catch up if I start so far behind?
There is no certainty in any stock. One day Picard may be valued astronomically high. The next, just as low. In fact, many stock prospectus' state that stocks are extremely volatile. Savvy, active traders will always be rewarded in the Spock Market.
-
Will the Spock Market ever re-set?
Yes. Currently, the plan is to reset the TNG 2.0 market after episode 179. However, the show producers reserve the right to amend this date earlier or later at their sole discretion for the purpose of game improvements or additions of prizes. Spock Market traders will be notified in advance via the Hailing Frequencies Newsletter, Mr. Spock 2.0's MySpace page (www.myspace.com/startrek20) and on the Market News section of the Spock Market. A new season beginning with episode 101 will start with a refreshed Spock Market. TOS 2.0 will reset following episode 79.
-
Why are the games independent of each other?
The two Star Trek 2.0 games are independent of each other to give players of both games a unique experience. Some people may only wish to play TNG 2.0 and should not be required to play TOS 2.0 (though now that we think about it, perhaps a little convincing at phaser point wouldn't be a bad idea). The monetary units of FDR and GPL are not interchangeable between games. The reason for this is the exchange rate between the two time periods is really huge and would break the Temporal Prime Directive.
-
Is someone running this thing?
Yes, The Spock Market is actively maintained. We have a Vulcan, several Ferengi, a Caitian and a really tall Klingon who produce and run the show and game. We used to have a member of Species-8472, but they were really freaking us out. We'll do our best to help you with questions and fix bugs as they appear.
-
What do I win?
