Lupo gave the following five tips for anyone looking to thwart a hopeful hacker.

  • A personal firewall is key, but it's safest to use hardware firewalls rather than software firewall applications.
  • Use a good antivirus program. Lupo recommends F-Prot.
  • Install an anti-hostile-code application such as Finjan's SurfinGate.
  • Make sure your passwords are varied and obscure!
  • Back up your system regularly.
