It's an ammo can. It's a PC. It's an ammo-can PC.

Conserve space when necessary. This isn't very hard to put together. You just need to figure out where to place everything.

  1. I made plastic mounting plates for the motherboard and power supply. To get everything to fit, I took apart the power supply. Precious millimeters make a difference. I used my trusty laser cutter to make the mounting plates.
  2. I used the mounts as a template to drill the holes in the ammo can.
  3. I cut out the holes for the motherboard ports, as shown here. I used the bracket that comes with the motherboard as a template to mark the ammo can. To cut it out, use a Dremel with a fiber cutoff disc. It cut through the metal can like butter and made quick work of the job. I used a small metal file to clean up the edges.
  4. I saw that I had enough space to install an 802.11 card. As you can see, the antenna sticking out of the case made the can looks like a military radio.
  5. I put it all together and made sure it worked.
