Morgan gets to know Andy Serkis, the actor who brought Gollum to life in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.'

With the likes of Shrek and Dr. Aki Ross from Final Fantasy populating the silver screen, computer-generated movie characters are nothing new. But the twisted soul of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers takes digital characters to a new realm of emotional depth.

Morgan Webb was lucky enough to talk to Andy Serkis, who not only supplied the haunting voice of the tortured CGI character, but whose body movements and acting informed the character to a degree previously unseen in CGI characters.

Tune in to our Thursday, April 10, show to see Morgan talk to Serkis about how he collaborated with director Peter Jackson and his special-effects team to bring Tolkein's tortured creature to life. After the show we'll post Morgan's entire interview with Serkis right here.

Here's an excerpt from the interview:

Serkis: Basically Peter Jackson wanted an actor to drive. Although it would be finally manifested as a CG character, he wanted an actor's input into creating the roll physiologically and physically and vocally.... Peter's idea was, "Hey, although it's gonna be a CG character, why have two actors playing a scene where three actors are required? Why have two actors playing to a tennis ball and a stick when you can have a real actor play the role."

Watch the show. Then watch the video clip. You'll see how they achieved this blend of traditional acting and computer wizardry, and you'll learn more about the man who's the soul of Gollum.
