Episode #5047

This Just In
Can’t Leave Well Enough Alone: Thought George Lucas was done tinkering with the original Star Wars trilogy? Think again, fanboys. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucas wants to remaster the series in 3D. Meanwhile, for those hoping against hope that Episode III will be a truly dark Revenge of the Sith, Lucas was quoted as saying it would be a “tearjerker.” (Bonus joke for true movie geeks: Hopefully, no kittens were involved in the production.)

404’s Aren’t Just for Errors Anymore: 404 Error pages are now bastions of amusement. You can play Zork or a game of 404 Breakout. Find more at the 404 Research Lab.

Silent But Deadly: Amuse yourself with this chart of Angry Bed Positions.

Uh, Er, Hmmm: NakeDan the Handy Man.

Global Happy Feet
While many people yearn to be free of their office jobs, Matt Harding actually did something about it: He quit. Although you wouldn’t think being a video game designer at Pandemic Studios would be that bad, he told himself, “I can kill myself for two years doing this, or I can see the world.”

So he decided to “go walk the Earth, like Caine from Kung Fu.”  Furthermore, he kept an online log of his journeys at Wherethehellismatt.com. And he also recorded himself doing a jig in each place he visited, including the Federated States of Micronesia. “The origin of the dance was to break the tension at awkward moments,” he explained.

Share those awkward moments with Matt at Wherethehellismatt.com.

Shake Your Magic Moneymaker
Magic the Gathering may seem like one of those card games that the especially geeky play at comics shops. And it’s true—but it’s also a seriously competitive game where pro players can win hundreds of thousands of dollars at tournaments. We followed the pro team NFC in its assault on the 2005 Pro Tour in Atlanta last week, sharing in the highs and lows of such cutthroat action.

Still mystified? You can learn more about the game here.

The Feed
Don’t Buy It Now: Who knew that putting fixed prices on auction items was patented? eBay didn’t, and a federal judge says they’re in violation of Thomas Woolston’s patent.

A Whole New Gray Area: PyMusique enables downloading DRM-less tracks from iTunes.

Next, They’ll Go After the French Maids: Rep. Al Edwards, D-Houston, wants to put an end to cheerleading with suggestive moves.

Kevin R.’s Dark Deal: RAID Server
One the hottest PC gaming configurations is having two drives running in a RAID 0 stripe. The data is broken down into blocks and each block is written to a separate disk drive, which in turn increases performance. But you’re out of luck if it crashes; not so with a RAID 5, which adds true fault tolerance.

You can build your own RAID 5 storage system with a terabyte of storage by hooking up multiple hard drives with a Promise FastTrack.

Promise FastTrack S150
Promise.com - $249

Western Digital SATA RE 250 GB
Westerndigital.com - $180

Or you can just buy a LaCie RAID that offers hot-swappable drives:

LaCie F800 1TB RAID
Lacie.com - $1349

Phenomenauts are a zappy power-pop-punk four-piece out of the Bay Area that play “sci-fi rocket roll.” Citing influences as diverse as Devo, the Stray Cats, and the Kinks, Phenomenauts straddle that fine line between the relentless comedy punk of The Vandals and the other-worldly pop of Zolar-X. Comprised of vocalist/guitarists Commander Angel Nova and Corporal Joe Bot, drummer Major Jimmy Boom, and stand-up bassist Captain Chreehos, Phenomenauts just recorded their first full-length release, titled Rockets and Robots. The alien visitors are assaulting the west coast to bring their spaced-out antics to a club near you. For more info, visit www.phenomenauts.com.
