The Ring Comes Back Around
Japanese director Hideo Nakata has achieved a film first: Directing the same sequel twice in two different countries. The Hollywood version of his Japanese horror film, Ringu, was a huge success as The Ring (directed by Gore Verbinski). For the Hollywood sequel, Nakata was hired—after he had already directed the Japanese sequel.

But Nakata promises that the sequels won’t be too similar. “I would say these two movies are completely different,” he said, with the American version being “much more emotional, dramatic.”

Nakata went on to say he feels that Japanese audiences are more patient with the slow pace of his horror films. “But at the same time, I can tell the younger audiences here can accept the Asian style (of filmmaking),” he said.
