| While iTunes’ $1 per song seems pretty reasonable, there’s a new music service that undercuts that price quite a bit… if you live in Russia. Allofmp3.com charges just .02 cents per 1 MB.. That means entire albums can go for under $1. You install the Allofmp3 Explorer, surf for tunes, choose your format and bit-rate, and it'll show you how much you’re going to spend on the fly.
Note: Buyers beware. We don’t know if this site is entirely on the up-and-up, but it's worth checking out. |
| For a little while, Pauly Shore was synonymous with MTV—he was “The Weiz,” a sort of dazed surfer dude with his own bizarre language. Then, after a series of not-that-great movies, Weasel backlash set in and the bright light of fame shifted far, far away. But now he’s back with an autobiographical movie he directed himself that parodies his own career, Pauly Shore is Dead.
“I fake my death to become famous again,” he said. “If you liked my other movies, you’ll like this. If you didn’t like my other movies you’ll really like this because I kill myself.” Now out on DVD, the movie is getting the best reviews of his career, and he’s about to embark on a national stand-up tour. Another successful second act in an American life! Who said it couldn’t be done? For more Pauly, visit www.paulyshore.com. |

| Kevin P. has another free game worthy of your time. Blockland is a non-competitive multiplayer game where you build with interconnecting bricks. Yes, it’s kind of like 3D team Lego. Unfortunately, you can’t actually save your creations (yet)–though you can destroy people’s buildings. “It's fun, free, and it will be featured in a future LAN Party, so you'd better brush up on your building skills,” said Kevin P. So download it now at www.ageoftime.com/blockland. |
| Today we featured an unhappy participant at a training camp. Unfortunately, between the time we find these web videos and the time we air them, the links change or they’re no long available. Thus, all we can offer is the site where we originally saw them. In this case it’s www.killsometime.com. |
| Out of the ashes of power-poppers The Tories comes Los Angeles-based Avion, a five-piece band that blends emo alt-rock with jangley art-pop to create a sound all their own. After the demise of The Torries, frontman Steve Bertrand began writing material and gigging around town, before finding the players that would eventually make up his new group. Recorded at his home studio, the band’s self-produced debut album soon found its way to Columbia Records/Red Ink, who signed them up quick. The first single, "Seven Days Without You," showcases the act’s soft-rock-with-an-edge sound and Bertrand’s heart-on-his-sleeve lyrical sensibility. Taking its name from the French word for "airplane," Avion has set its sights high. Learn more about Avion at www.avionmusic.com. |
| Members of our IRC chat room asked Pauly:
What are your hobbies? “I like to run my dogs in the canyons,” he said. “I also like to be beaten with leaves by big, fat Russian women.” Would you like to do another mainstream movie, or stay underground? “I would like to stay underground,” he said. “It’s best that way, now that I think about it.” |
