Adult Swim's "Tom," CES, LAN Party

Episode #5001

Take a Swim With Tom
The Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has become a wellspring for sophisticated ‘toons, and its newest show is every bit as loopy as its predecessors: Tom Goes to the Mayor. Created by Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, it delves into the fizzled aspirations of Jefferton resident Tom Peters. Tom is a would-be entrepreneur who regularly pitches his ideas for civic projects to Jefferton’s mayor, The Mayor, who loves them all even if they’re tragically stupid. The Mayor is also a lunatic. Thus, Tom Goes to the Mayor mines a rare vein of comedy: misguided city planning and its horrible effects on American life.

Check out a clip of Tom Goes to the Mayor here. For more clips, plus full versions of the original ‘toons, visit Tim and Eric’s website, www.timanderic.com.

Come back here tomorrow for our web-exclusive interview with Tim and Eric.

Sarah’s Damn Good Website
A picture is worth a thousand words… and news site www.tenbyten.org takes that maxim seriously by presenting the day’s biggest stories as photos. Every hour, the site scans RSS feeds from news organizations, determines the top 100 words being used, and matches them to 100 photos.

Live From Las Vegas: CES
Kevin R. reported live from the massive Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. This is the annual convention that manufacturers use to unveil their latest and greatest devices and concepts, hoping to snare publicity and consumer interest. "The show's huge -- 1.5 million square feet with 2,500 exhibits," Kevin R. said. "I'm in heaven." The show started off with a bang as Bill Gates' keynote address featured a common Windows-user experience: multiple crashes. "Hey, who's in charge of Microsoft, anyway?" asked co-host Conan O'Brien.

Here are the products that Kevin R. was most impressed by in his first report:

Olympus m:robe 500 portable multimedia device -- $500

Toshiba HD-DVD Player -- $1,000 (projected)

LG Electronics 60PY2DR 60" Plasma w/ DVR

Samsung 102" Plasma Display Panel

Samsung SC-X105L Sports Cam Digital Camcorder

He'll be back tomorrow with another report live from the convention floor.
