E3 2010: Saw II PreviewBy Joe Rybicki - Posted Jun 22, 2010
What We Already Know:
Saw II: Flesh & Blood is a sequel to the improbably gory Saw, set between the events of the first and second films in the bizarrely prolific series. It stars Michael, son of the first film's Detective Taft, as he attempts to investigate his father's disappearance...and ends up drawn into Saw's twisted world himself.
What We're Seeing Now:
A very mature-rated adventure game with a heavy emphasis on puzzles. Amid the dark and bloody environments, Michael must quickly figure out an escape route from a series of brutal traps, based on simple clues scrawled on walls and such. For example, at one point in the demo he's locked in a courtyard with another prisoner, whose arms are tied behind his back and whose head is encased in a spiked cage. Blinded by fury, he keeps trying to charge Michael and impale him on the spikes. But written on the wall is "Watch your step," and there's an open elevator shaft nearby -- so Michael lures his charging opponent toward the shaft and to his death.
If you imagine Silent Hill with considerably more brutality, you'd be on the right track. Fans of that series should find something to like here.
