What We Already Know:
Remember Bonk? The big-headed caveman was essentially the mascot of the ill-fated TurboGrafx-16, which failed to burn up America quite like it had Japan. Bonk’s still knocking around all these years later, and his latest adventure is set to hit XBLA, PSN and WiiWare.
What We're Seeing Now:
Bonk works it much like he always has, with his signature headbutt, mid-air spin and head-first landing carrying him through worlds of simple platforming. New to the series are a double-jump and six special powers, which include fire, ice, and (naturally) bubbles. The special abilities change Bonk’s appearance (for example, ice adds a frozen mohawk) and grant access to special areas. Ice can freeze enemies, bubbles can be ridden upwards, that sort of thing.
Brink of Extinction features two-player co-op, both local and online, and a second player can make it easier to access some areas. You can also replay each of the 30 levels later once you have the powers needed to access missed secrets.
That’s about all there is to report. Brink of Extinction is certainly a new Bonk game, so if you’re a Bonk aficionado you’ll know the drill.
Bonk’s due in October. Uh, his game, not his baby.
