Marvel vs. Capcom 2 XBLA/PSN PreviewBy Brian Leahy - Posted Jul 16, 2009
Capcom is gearing up to re-release the popular Marvel vs. Capcom 2 through Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network and fighting fans will definitely want to pay attention. While it didn’t receive the same “HD Remix” treatment that Street Fighter II Turbo did, the sprites hold up considerably well and look great on HD displays using the different filters that Capcom has included. Additionally, the viewable area has been increased to a 16:9 aspect ratio, though the playable area remains at 4:3.
If you were a fan of the original game, the re-release is a perfect port of the Dreamcast code. I haven’t had the chance to play the game online at this time, but Backbone and Capcom have included the same netcode from Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, which includes the player lobby system (something curiously missing from Street Fighter IV).
Thankfully, all of the characters will be unlocked as soon as you boot up the game so you won’t have to go through a lengthy unlock process after purchasing the game. You’ll be ready to jump online as soon as the download is complete. If you’re looking for a good fighting game to get some more mileage out of your arcade stick or just grab a change of pace from Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is your game.
The Xbox 360 version will be released on July 29th, with the PS3 version dropping on August 13th. The game will run you $15.
