LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues Comic-Con 2009 Preview
By Patrick Klepek - Posted Jul 25, 2009
Even though LEGO Indiana Jones is widely considered the weakest of Traveller's Tales LEGO series -- the movies didn't lend themselves to the creative scenarios that made Star Wars and Batman click so well -- LucasArts is moving full steam ahead with a sequel. LEGO: Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues premiered in hands-on form at Comic-Con this year, but it was clear the version being shown was very, very rough. I say rough because the screen was littered with obvious signs of a game still deeply in development, with design notes littered all over the screen.
It's a LEGO game, though, so a few clipping polygons isn't what's important. Unfortunately, the Comic-Con demo did little to provide answers to my other questions about the game. There's honestly no way to tell if Traveller's Tales has been able to mine the Indiana Jones series for more appropriate setups in the second outing because the Comic-Con demo only provided a brief taste of what's in store. The demo stage drew from the finale of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the moment after the Ark of the Covenant has been opened and laser beams from Heaven are killing everyone nearby. You're only tasked with solving two short puzzles to block the deadly beams before it's over.

It still remains unclear why LucasArts decided Indiana Jones was worthy of another LEGO outing, though to be fair, the Comic-Con demo did not feature any sections from the latest film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, nor was I able to check out the game's interesting co-op approach to a level editor. At Comic-Con, LEGO Indiana Jones 2 showed itself as more of the same. Considering how many other superior LEGO options there are out there, that's a bad sign.

I tried the Star Wars one with a buddy of mine and we nearly fell asleep an hour into it. The Indiana Jones one we played for like 12 hours straight one Saturday. It was the most fun of the series. That being said... SCREW YOU LUCASARTS FOR NOT MAKING A REAL INDIANA JONES GAME.
