Company Description: Tecmo Koei was created by the merger of video game publishers and developers Tecmo and Koei. Tecmo was founded in 1967 as Tehkan LTD. by Yoshihito Kakihara. It initially specialized in supplying cleaning equipment, but in 1969 the company began manufacturing arcade games. It changed its name to Tecmo in 1986 and houses offices in Kudankita, Chiyoda, Tokyo and Torrance, California. Koei was founded in 1978 by husband and wife, Yoichi and Keiko Erikawa. Yoichi attended Keio University and Koei is an intentional misspelling of this name. Koei originally focused on selling personal computers and business software, but after receiving awards for its 1983 Sega Genesis game, Nobunaga's Ambition, the company increased its game development efforts. Tecmo and Koei completed their merger on April 1, 2009.
