God of War Collection: A Comparison
By Sterling McGarvey - Posted Nov 20, 2009In preparation for the upcoming God of War III, Sony has released God of War Collection, a compilation containing both God of War and God of War II on one Blu-ray disc, as well as a download voucher for the God of War III demo. Both games have been remastered at 1280 x 720 resolution with anti-aliased graphics and 60 frame per second action, as well as trophy support for each game. G4tv.com won’t be running a scored review of God of War Collection, but we’ve set up videos with highlights from both God of War and God of War II’s opening boss battles so that you can see the difference between the PlayStation 2 classics (running upscaled on a 60 GB PlayStation 3, of course) and the remastered Blu-ray versions.
If you’re not familiar with the first game, please watch this 2005 trailer for God of War:
Here’s a video laying out comparisons between the PlayStation 2 version running on a PS3 and the newly remastered game for God of War Collection, narrated by yours truly:
And if you’re still on the fence about the quality of the 2007 PS2 sequel, here’s a look at X-Play’s video review of God of War II:
And in the vein of the God of War comparison video, I present the God of War II comparison video, also narrated by yours truly:
I’ve done my best to let the videos speak for themselves, but for any PlayStation 3 owner who has never played either game, I emphatically recommend picking up the compilation. Both games are among the finest titles of the PlayStation 2 era, and thanks to a facelift and fluid animation, have aged wonderfully compared to, say, many PlayStation 3 launch titles. God of War Collection is among the best remastered compilations released in a long time.

I'll be picking this one up after Christmas during the huge sales they are going to have on. IE I might be able to get this and a few other games for my PS3 library! Sadly this Christmas I'm getting a major upgrade for my desktop PC this year. (Dual GTX-260s, Windows 7, and an extra 4 GBs of memory)
So I'll be good for a long time on my PC and be able to run any game on the market, as well as enable SLI support in all my Games, and smoke CrysisWarhead's sorry butt!

GOW collection looks great on PS3.... I mean you can Play them (especially GOW2) and think; WoW I cant believe this was a PS2 Game! I'm sure people thought that anyways when it first came out for the PS2

I have a backwards compatible PS3 and both GoW and GoW II, both of which are in pristine condition despite me having purchased them both within a month of their original launch.
Bought the collection and all I can say is SO. WORTH. EVERY. RED. CENT.
Seriously, these games stand up to any game that is out right now and the gameplay is absolutely gorgeous. If you have a PS3, you owe it to yourself to pick this up.
huskerfan0802
played both on the ps2 but had to get the collection just to see them in pristine HD. HUGE difference. So much more fluid. the games look great but to me the big diff is the fluidity. it just feels right

I never played the originals but I can tell you that I can tell the difference, because while playing the collection there are moments,(usually short ones) where the cut scenes aren't redone and it stands out like a sore thumb.

I rented this one because I was dying to see the difference between the 2 and I don't know if my PS3 has issues with the backwards compatibility or the settings but when I played the original GOW on my PS3 the other day, it actually looked kinda blurry to me, but then when I played the collection this week, it was like seeing it for the first time on PS2 through a regular SD TV. Now people are saying they don't see much difference between the 2 games, but I thought it was just amazing, and definitely worth it if you don't have these games on PS2 or a PS2 to play them one. Great work Sony, now can we get Ratchet and Clank upscaled and then maybe FFVII????

I am wonder is there's subtitle for god of war collection? because the first two games for ps2 doesn't have subtitle. Only subtitle on god of war was psp.

hey sterling, can you please please please get a statement or comment from the developers about fixing the FREEZING PROBLEM?
personally, i cant even get to the first save point without a freeze. sometimes i cant get past the first hydra head without one.
this game i've wanted for months is unplayable without a patch or something. please sir, try to get an answer out of them.

GOD OF WAR KICKS ASSSSSSSSS I LOVE THIS GAME
sinner_mass
pretty cool, but not worth re-buying just for platinum trophies and small visual differences.
XXXSpartan118XXX
Its the same. Not worth buying again except for the trophies and the GOW3 demo. But i say it should be sold for about 30 not 40 bucks.
scuppo
Dont see much of a difference except for the trophy support. Thats the only reason for getting this. If you already have it you should skip unless you're into trophies and u want that demo.

Getting this on Monday. I never finished the first God of War, but I figured this is the best time to give them both a run through.

St_Drucifer
for someone who's looking to get a ps3 in the near future, this looks to be a good way to be introduced to the ps3 system. unfortunately i still haven't finished the first one: i'm close but i just can't seem to figure out that damn exploding box/spiked floor puzzle. i might just have to forget the first one and skip right to the second installment. So the second GoW looks to be their remastered pride and joy. excellent: should be enjoyable to play GoW 2 on ps3
dmacleod66
never got around to playing the god of war games on PS2, I Just picked up GoW collection and am enjoying it so far.
