You didn’t have to tell the hundred or so people surrounding the massive League of Legends booth that new champions had arrived. Screens that stretched from floor to ceiling displayed games as teams of fans took to the computers on the side. But the word on everyone’s lips today would not be the winners. Instead, there was a buzz above the anticipating crowd about the two new champions just announced for League of Legends.
The two characters could not be anymore different or dangerous. One keeps to the shadows while the other charges in from out of nowhere to close in the distance. For fans of the MOBA game, you’ll find something to like in these two new characters.
Blazing with the black flame of death, Hecarim charges onto the scene as a spectral centaur cavalryman with a rather large halberd to do all the talking for him. Nicknamed the shadow of war, the new champion focuses on damage and speed. His main ability throws him into battle with a forward charge. Hit an enemy and you’ll send them sailing. Clear out some room beforehand to let him pick up more speed and put a little more power behind his punch.
Once he gets into the heat of the battle, his giant halberd swing around him in a wide arc, hitting multiple enemies at the same time. But his ultimate ability calls up his spectral soldiers to all go charging into the heat of the battle. If you through one undead centaur was enough, try a whole legion at your command.
For those of you who like to hunt from behind the lines, Varus lets you take out opponents with just a couple of quivers. As the arrow of retribution, you wield the corrupted bow. Charging your shot allows you to shoot enemies farther away as well with a little more power. To take care of those pesky crowds, a hail of arrows rains down on your enemies with pain as well as corrupting the land that it hits. Anyone who touches this tainted soil slows down. I like to call them “easy targets.”
The ultimate ability shoots out a tentacle of sorts. When it finds your target, roots spread out to stop any other enemies in their path. One target with many victims, that’s what I call a good shot. Keep an eye out for these champions to arrive on the scene soon enough.
