[4:56] Brian Leahy: "Thanks for joining our liveblog from the Lost Planet 2 Comic-Con 2009 Panel. The festivities will soon proceed."
[5:01] Brian Leahy: "Very soon, in fact."
[5:01] Patrick Klepek: "Hello! We're live! Producer Jun Takeuchi is talking to the fans about Comic Con."
[5:02] Patrick Klepek: ""This is my first time to come to Comic Con and I'm having a great time. I've been to America a couple of times and I know how many cultures and races of people there are; but there are some people that aren't actually human! That's America for ya.""
[5:02] Patrick Klepek: "Diss."
[5:02] Patrick Klepek: "E3 trailer about to roll."
[5:03] Patrick Klepek: "Make sure to check out the E3 trailer on G4tv.com, even though we can't bring the video to you right now. :)"
[5:04] Patrick Klepek: "E3 trailer really highlights the intensity of the sequel and the emphasis on four-player co-op."
[5:04] Patrick Klepek: "Hey, rye! Lost Planet is a four-player co-op action adventure from Capcom. Today, they're talking about the sequel."
[5:05] Patrick Klepek: "Jun Takeuchi must really have a thing against bugs. I should've asked him about that during my interview with him yesterday."
[5:05] Patrick Klepek: "The "teaser" bit at the end of the E3 trailer is interesting because it highlights a desert environment, a rapid departure from the snow of the original and the jungle that was first shown for the sequel."
[5:05] Patrick Klepek: "There's going to be a focus on talking about the story today."
[5:05] Patrick Klepek: "Oops...or, around September/October. TGS."
[5:06] Patrick Klepek: "Rye -- No, it can be played single-player or with three friends."
[5:06] Patrick Klepek: "Tagline of Lost Planet 2 -- "The hero of the story is not Wayne, but the players themselves!""
[5:07] Patrick Klepek: "Oh, man. The Salamander boss shown in various videos is actually one of the smallest bosses, according to Takeuchi."
[5:07] Patrick Klepek: "Lost Planet 2 takes place about 10 years after the events of Lost Planet."
[5:08] Patrick Klepek: "The humans on E.D.N. III (the "Lost Planet") have been trying to change the environment to suit them. The planet has responded in different ways, which explains the various settings (jungle, desert, etc.)"
[5:08] Patrick Klepek: "Takeuchi's goal was to include way more content in the sequel. Surprise?"
[5:09] Patrick Klepek: "Even though Lost Planet 2 has four player co-op, the game does have AI to control the partners in single-player. There's a more hardcore option that Takeuchi told me about, but you'll have to wait and listen to my interview with him. :)"
[5:10] Patrick Klepek: "Takeuchi says each boss has multiple strategies to take them down."
[5:12] Patrick Klepek: "Lost Planet 2 has a great amount of customization options for the player characters. You can customize the head, body, legs and backpack to create something unique. Anyone want to guess whether they'll be selling downloadable content for that? :)"
[5:13] Patrick Klepek: "You can customize the gestures of your character, too."
[5:13] Patrick Klepek: "There are "dozens" of variations for each customizable part."
[5:14] Patrick Klepek: "Lost Planet 2 is the first game to use Capcom's MT Framework Engine 2.0. "Huge improvements in recreating realistic water, light, wind and grass.""
[5:15] Patrick Klepek: "They're about to boot up a copy of the game."
[5:15] Patrick Klepek: ""We've chosen the four best players we could find at Capcom to come here today and try out this demo.""
[5:16] Patrick Klepek: ""At least two of them are probably much better than average, so I'm a little bit worried at how this is going to go. [laughs]""
[5:17] Patrick Klepek: "While technical hiccups are being fixed, Takeuchi is asking about some other games they are excited for."
[5:18] Patrick Klepek: "Dead Rising 2? Tons of claps. Bayonetta? A few claps."
[5:18] Patrick Klepek: "Takeuchi just asked if they knew the characters from Tatsunoko in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Most people laughed and said no. Speed Racer? Hoots and hollers."
[5:19] Patrick Klepek: "Hahaha someone just yelled out "PS3, better graphics!""
[5:19] Patrick Klepek: "Fanboy wars going on between the kids. Shouts for Xbox 360."
[5:19] Patrick Klepek: "Poor Mr. Takeuchi."
[5:20] Patrick Klepek: "Game starting. "Thank God, we were really starting to run out of things to talk about there.""
[5:20] Patrick Klepek: "Game is starting up. We're seeing tutorial menus. Hmm, kind of looks like a demo. I wonder if they'll release this on Xbox Live sometime soon."
[5:21] Patrick Klepek: ""Most people I've seen run right past this and then have no idea what they're doing.""
[5:21] Patrick Klepek: "Giant salamander boss has emerged from the ocean. "Defeat Category G!" says the game."
[5:21] Patrick Klepek: "I wonder what Category A is?"
[5:22] Patrick Klepek: "Takeuchi is pointing out the grass and how it's affected by the boss. This is one of the new features of the game's engine."
[5:22] Patrick Klepek: "This boss is moving based on AI determinations. It's not running on a script."
[5:24] Patrick Klepek: "The different types of grenades are being pointed out -- plasma grenades, for example. "It allows you to freeze enemies' movements. It's a sort of electrical grenade." Now, the gun grenade. "
[5:24] Patrick Klepek: "Gun grenades = sticky grenades."
[5:25] Patrick Klepek: "Oops, not gun. Gum! Showing the disk grenade now, which is pretty much a frisbee. Once the disk grenade is thrown, you can shoot it and blow it up early. "
[5:25] Patrick Klepek: "They just used a gatling gun to blow apart different legs of the salamander."
[5:26] Patrick Klepek: "Lost Planet 2 includes support weapons. As they shoot you, your power is actually increased."
[5:26] Patrick Klepek: "They've just gone inside the boss. Gross. Rivers of poop."
[5:26] Patrick Klepek: "This feels like a twisted scene out of Ghostbusters II. River of slime!"
[5:27] Patrick Klepek: "Psx-: They are mostly showing four guys running around separately. It does not appear to have elements where you specifically need to interact with one another, outside of devising strategies for taking down a boss."
[5:27] Patrick Klepek: "He was just expelled from the boss' behind. "Let's see Halo do that!""
[5:29] Patrick Klepek: "I'm doing a live blog and reading a live blog at the same time. Power user!"
[5:29] Patrick Klepek: "Oh, wow. Lost Planet 2 has a three-player robot suit. One person operates the movement, two people pilot side cannons. Audience roars."
[5:29] Patrick Klepek: ""I think the boss is pretty much screwed now.""
[5:30] Patrick Klepek: "Nate: Checking out the Star Wars panel, too. :)"
[5:30] Patrick Klepek: "The boss is going down for the count with a Godzilla-esque roar."
[5:30] Patrick Klepek: "Who here played Lost Planet 1?"
[5:30] Patrick Klepek: "The boss just melted, leaving only a skeleton."
[5:31] Patrick Klepek: ""What do you guys think?" Big applause."
[5:32] Patrick Klepek: ""If you like what you see, get out there and put your pre-orders in! Get out of your wallets!" Takeuchi is a funny dude."
[5:32] Patrick Klepek: "Takeuchi is looking into the audience to ask questions."
[5:32] Patrick Klepek: "#1 What happens if you haven't played Lost Planet 1? "
[5:33] Patrick Klepek: ""Everything we've shown of the game here is all from episode one, but there is an episode zero that will explain what has happened so far." It will explain the gap between Lost Planet 1 and 2."
[5:33] Patrick Klepek: "They're giving away one of the salamander plushies to the guy."
[5:34] Patrick Klepek: "#2 If you could choose one thing, what would you say you're most proud of?"
[5:34] Patrick Klepek: ""The thing I'm most proud of on this product is the four player gameplay, which we put into it right from the start, has become something interesting." "Of course, some other things to be proud of are the graphics and the sound and really just how much work the staff working on the game put into it.""
[5:35] Patrick Klepek: "#3 Will there be larger player multiplayer modes? More than four players?"
[5:36] Patrick Klepek: "There will be many multiplayer options. 16 players simultaneously with a lot of new modes. They haven't shown much about the multiplayer yet. Rather than increasing the number of players, they wanted to work on finding new things for the existing players to do while playing."
[5:36] Patrick Klepek: "#4 Will the storyline in Lost Planet 2 be focused on one character because of the increased emphasis on multiplayer coop?"
[5:37] Patrick Klepek: "Because of the coop in the game and it's such a big feature, throughout each of the six episodes the game focuses on different perspectives on the planet. Throughout each of the episodes, players will see different main characters and each will have their own story. At the end of the game, all six of those stories will combine into one and you will discover the relationship between them."
[5:37] Patrick Klepek: "Last question!"
[5:38] Patrick Klepek: "#5 What alternative modes are there going to be in the game? Side quest modes? Battle modes?"
[5:39] Patrick Klepek: "There are going to be a lot of extra modes in the game. Multiplayer with many modes. A training mode. A lot of other modes but "unfortunately" they cannot talk about them yet."
[5:39] Patrick Klepek: "Three more questions!"
[5:39] Patrick Klepek: "Bonus round."
[5:39] Patrick Klepek: "#6 Are there other vehicles that have the options for three players or more?"
[5:40] Patrick Klepek: "Yes, there are others."
[5:41] Patrick Klepek: "There's a vehicle that will be able to fly."
[5:42] Patrick Klepek: "One guy passed on the idea of bigger monsters coming as you fight waves of them. Takeuchi said that's a good idea."
[5:43] Patrick Klepek: "Next question asked about customization options. Team is still figuring out how many will be available at the start or how many will have to be unlocked."
[5:43] Patrick Klepek: "Applause for the Lost Planet team. Now they're throwing plushies."
[5:44] Patrick Klepek: "That's it for this panel. Next up, Dead Space: Extraction in the same room! I'll be here!"
