battle.net abbreviations
gg: good game; gl: good luck; rm: Re-make (remake the map); bc: battlecruiser; goons: Dragoons; lings: zerglings.
-
Hydralisk
Can attack from a distance and hit air foes. Hydralisks also have more than twice the Hit Points of a Zergling, which makes them a better investment.
-
Infested Terran
Kamikaze units, but instead they attack ground units and buildings with a massive explosion. They can burrow like other ground Zerg units, which is nice for surprise kamikaze attacks. They can take down a Bunker, Sunken, or Photon Cannon in one shot as well as any units protecting it.
-
Observer
The Observer is always cloaked with no energy bar and can detect other cloaked units. This makes it a good scout and can be placed at key locations for easy monitoring, and the fact that it flies makes it even easier to place. It has no weapons and weak armor, which is a crucial flaw. Once detected, it’s dead meat. Sneaking one into an enemy...
-
Scourge
Kamikaze fighters, running into air targets and doing massive damage. Very fast, and a group of about 4 can take down a Battlecruiser or a Carrier. They also make good scouts.
-
Zergling
Since they are cheap to produce, they are great for rushing the enemy or swarming them with a large pack of Zerglings, but they are weak.If you burrow a few Zerglings near extra resources, you can prevent easy expansion by your enemies.
-
Broodling
Zerglings but weaker. They have an energy bar that slowly decreases. When it gets to zero, the Broodling dies.
-
Hear the different unit phrases
Choose a unit four times. Pick it again to hear a different phrase. This may be done on every ground unit, air unit, and heroes. Every unit has four to seven different phrases which may be heard by following this process..
-
Marine
Basic Terran unit with good range and decent Hit Points in the beginning. One of the three basic units (Marine, Zergling, and Zealot) that can attack air enemies. Later on in the game, Marines will mainly be used as the people inside your Bunkers providing your defense. The Stim Pack ability, which must be researched at the Academy, subtracts 10...
-
Dragoon
First long-range unit which can shoot air enemies, but are weak fighters. Upgrade the Dragoons’ attack range with the Singularity Charge upgrade as soon as you can. Back them up by a few Zealots, Dark Templar, and Archons.
-
Fast Zerglings
Have your four starting Drones begin harvesting. You will only have to construct one more Drone. When these hatch, have it harvest. Wait until you get 200 minerals, then build a Spawning Pool. When you get 50 minerals, make a Drone, then another. When you get 100 minerals, make an Overlord. You should have 6 Drones, about 150 minerals, and 2...
-
Nuking neutral animals
Pick a neutral animal (Kakaru, Rhyadon, Scantid, Ursadon, Bangalass, Or Ragnasaur) over and over again until a nuke falls on them. They will make up to fifteen sounds before they die.
-
Zealot
Most powerful of the three basic units. Upgrade their weapons systems at the Forge and their legs at the Citadel of Adun. If done they become fast killing machines. Weakness is air attacks.
-
Arbiter
This flying unit with spells but also has a regular attack similar to the Dragoon’s. Stasis field puts the target in a bubble that cannot be affected by anything until it wears off. The unit in Stasis cannot do anything and nothing can be done to it. This is especially useful to protect your units from a nuke.
-
Defiler
No attacks but has spells. Plague drains the life off the target unit at the rate of 25 points of damage/second, but it won’t kill it. The Plague will do a total of maximum 300 damage.
-
Destroying Siege Tanks
Assemble a large group of Dragoons (9-12), and they will easily overpower Siege Tanks.
-
Ghost
Weak fighter by itself, but it is the only unit which can "nuke" the enemy. Ability to cloak itself, which makes it invisible to enemies unless they have Detector units nearby. Lockdown ability paralyzes a mechanical unit so it can’t do anything. This is useful against some of the more powerful air units such as the Battlecruiser and the...
-
High Templar
No attack but have three spells. Psionic Storm, which blasts electricity over an area. This hits ground, air and cloaked units whether you can see them or not. Hallucination makes two copies of the target. These copies of the unit can be used to draw fire away from real units or used as scouts. Melds two Templar together to form an Archon.
-
Protoss rushing
Construct three or four gateways in a row so you only have to make three or four zealots at each gateway to get twelve. Then, build a Forge so you can build photon cannons.
-
Battlecruiser
The most powerful unit for the Terran. It has high Hit Points and armor. Bring along SCVs (Defensive Matrix helps them last longer) to repair them so you won’t lose them since they are expensive. The Yamato Blast is very powerful and devastating range. Takes a long time to move around and to fire (really slow), but when you attack with...
-
Carrier
Powerful flying unit has no real weapons but can manufacture little Interceptors. The Interceptors come back once they have shot the enemy with their lasers and are sent out once again. The Interceptors can hit both air and ground targets.
-
Dropship
Transportation unit for the Terran. Fast flyer, and has average armor. I No weaponry and if the Dropship is killed, all units inside it also die automatically without a chance to fight
-
Protoss defense
If you are Protoss, construct many Photo Cannons at your entrance until it is blocked. Put twelve Reavers in front with twelve Scouts just above them. Now make sure your Scouts and Reavers hold position.
-
Reaver
No weapons, but manufactures little Scarabs, which it launches at great distances for great damage. If the Reaver dies you lose all the Scarabs inside it too, remember they move slowly.
-
Scout
Good ground attack and a powerful air attack and make good scouts. Can be upgraded to make them last longer and fight better
-
Shuttle
Transport ship for the Protoss. Fast and have good armor and Hit Points and fastest of the 3 aerial transports.
-
Siege Tank
Very powerful unit with good armor. Get the Siege Mode upgrade as soon as possible. While in Siege Mode, the tank does 70 points of damage each shot, with tremendous range. When attacking enemy bases with Siege Tanks, bring along Marines to cover the tanks.
-
Zerg defense
If you chose to be Zerg, start by blocking your entrance with Sunken Colonies. Make about two rows of them. Next, build some Spore Colonies in front and in back of the Sunken Colonies. Put some Guardians as soon as possible just in front of your Spore Colonies. Make your Guardians hold position.
-
Critter trick
In single player mode, click on a critter several times and it will explode like a nuke.
-
Easy victory against CPU Zerg
Construct Proton Cannons near the Zerg base and fire protons at the Zerg base.
-
Goliath
Decent ground attack and an excellent anti-air attack. Well-balanced unit which provides good cover for Siege Tanks.
-
Mutalisk
Attacking flyer for the Zerg. It can attack both ground and air units, and does the same damage to both. Mutalisks are fast, but weak although they do well in large groups. Once a Greater Spire is obtained, Mutalisks can become Guardians or Devourers.
-
Overlord
Provides control, detect cloaked and burrowed units and, once upgraded, transport ground units by air. Slowest of the 3 transports, even if you upgrade their speed.
-
Queen
The Queen has no regular attack but has 4 spells. Reveals cloaked units in the area too, and it stops Stim Pack use. Spawns Broodlings. Useful on powerful ground units such as Ultralisks and Siege Tanks, but not on robotic units.
-
Wraith
"basic" flyer for the Terran. It has a good air-to-air attack and a decent ground attack. Better fighter than the Ghost and if the enemy can’t detect your Wraiths, they can do some serious damage.
-
Angry Marine
On the first Terran bootcamp mission where you build three supply depots, have the Marines attack each other. One of the Marines will give an angry speech.
-
Firebat
Strong ground unit with its powerful flame-throwers (ground enemies only). They also can use Stim Packs, which makes their slow flame bursts even better. Their damage is reduced against units with "heavy" type armor.
-
Guardian
Obtained by mutating a Mutalisk. Its attack has huge range and damage, but is slow to fire and can only target ground units.
-
Science Vessel
Spells are very useful, Defensive Matrix puts a force field on a unit, and any damage dealt to that unit will be reduced to one point. It will wear off after 30 seconds or 250 points of damage, whichever comes first. EMP Shockwave drains all shields from Protoss units and takes all energy from any units. It can be used to stop Yamato blasts,...
-
Ultralisk
Very powerful in attack, but can’t burrow. They induce fear like Battlecruisers.
-
Vulture
Fast unit, and once Ion thrusters are researched, it is the fastest unit in the game. Damage is only strong versus lightly armored enemies
-
Archon
By combining High Templar together. These are extremely powerful units that can hit both ground and air for massive damage. A pack of 12 (which requires 24 High Templar to be sacrificed) can destroy a whole base by itself. Immune to many of the game’s statuses such as: Ensnare, Irradiate, Parasite, Spawn Broodling, Maelstrom, Plague, Dark...
-
Easy Terran win
Set the rally point of your factory in the middle of the enemy base. Keep constructing Goliaths and Siege Tanks. Let them take out the base. The Goliaths will take out most air units. Make sure to bring a Science Vessel for Cloaked and Burrowed troops.
