On the next episodes of G4tv.com and Judgment Day, Tina and Laura devote the entire episode to Grand Theft Auto, in anticipation of the newest edition, San Andreas. Good timing too, as the game just got leaked by pirates and is floating out there now! All this GTA talk got us thinking about other people who dig this on-fire game....
Former Arsonists member Freestyle is making waves with his debut solo album Etched In Stone, rippin' the underground a new one with his fiery deluvers and jagged rhymes. He also happens to be a big Grand Theft Auto fan, so we asked him some questions about the hot game, it's tie-in with music and hip hop, and what he's up to. Check it out...
What is your favorite Grand Theft Auto game?
It has to be the last version I played, Vice City. I haven’t played San Andreas yet, but you know I will at some point for sure.
Why is this style of games so popular?
I’d say they’re popular simply cuz you can get into trouble without getting’ into trouble in real life. People like "bad" games. Shoot ‘em up games are the most popular games if I m not mistaken. Look at Counterstrike. People eat that stuff up.
Do you think they promote violence?
I don’t think they promote violence at all. I believe they RELIEVE violence and other wack stuff in the brain. It’s a way to release stress and tension.
Are they too graphic for kids or have they seen all this on TV before?
Too graphic for kids? How? Movies and TV shows show it all the time! There’s NO EXCUSE. Bitch ass old folks gotta take a chill pill!
What is your favorite part of GTA?
My favorite part has to be tellin’ people to get the f**k out of their car. Dats wassup! Ha ha!
Do you stick to the missions or go off and just start raisin’ hell?
I tend to stick to the missions. I like finishin’ games.
Are you excited about the new one, San Andreas?
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!
San Andreas has a lot of hip hop influence. Is that a good thing or bad thing?
It’s a GREAT thing. The more the better. Hip hop adds flavor to anything you add it to. There’s no denying it. So why not make the game hotter by addin’ hip hop? I wish they’d add my music to it! I’ve been tryin’ to get it on there and they haven’t given me a chance yet! ROCKSTAR HOLLA BACK! I GOT SOME JOINTS FOR YOU!!!
GTA seems to integrate music and video games very well, with the radio stations in the game, and soundtracks in the stores. Is this a sign of the wave of the future of music and games?
I’d say it is. Music and video games are both part of the entertainment industry. The best way to market is cross marketing, and this is a great way to pull it off. See how actors are getting’ involved too now? It works.
Do you listen to the radio stations when you play or just bump your own tunes?
I listen to the radio stations. They’re tight.
So what happened with your group The Arsonists? Why’d y’all breakup?
We broke up simply cuz things weren’t workin’ out. It was like a relationship that just went sour. One member wanted to go solo, and the others started fighting. I don’t mean to make myself sound like an angel or anything, but I didn’t wanna leave the group and neither was I fighting with anyone. they asked me to leave against my will and one of the members picked a fight with me and hit me in the middle of an argument. some childish shit... right after that fight is when they asked me to leave. Don’t ask me why they asked me to leave instead of the other guy. Things didn’t make sense when it went down and it still doesn’t make sense to this day. its all good though. I’m livin’ and I’m still doin’ music!
What’s next for you (albums, projects, etc)?
My second album, an album with (Wu tang affiliate) Shabazz the Disciple, some features here and there.
Got a website you wanna promote or any other projects?
Pick up my new album, Etched In Stone, which is in stores NOW. It's packed with dope beats, rhymes, concepts, energy, and positivity. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. My website is www.freestyleshq.com! Come check me!!!!!
