Square's exalted role-playing masterpiece may hit the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade according to rumors swirling the internets. Final Fantasy VII for the Sony Playstation was praised by GamePro magazine, saying that the title is "quite possibly, the greatest game ever made" as it shattered the console doors for 3D role-playing games. Also, Square-Enix is also rumored to remake the classic RPG for the Playstation 3 - a rumor that has been going on since the PS3 Final Fantasy VII tech demo on the system's release. Start your prayers and sacrifices, let's hope at least one is true.

@staychisel gta was not a playstation game first it was a PC game first , remember the top down view . very much the same way that gta china wars on the DS is . The original Grand Theft Auto was developed in DOS, and then later ported to Microsoft Windows (using SciTech MGL), Sony PlayStation, and Game Boy Color

man they need to stop taking exclusives away and making them not exclusives...if sony was smart and kept their "exclusives" they would sell more systems. and if square-enix was smart they would remake this title "exclusively" to the ps3 to boost up sales.

i don't care which one, just PLEASE be a true rumor

XBLA please, I'm begging. That's all. Considering that Sony lost the exclusives to FF, I think it's a good chance we'll get it for XBLA at least.

Final Fantasy is owned by Square, not Sony. Square will never sell that name to anyone.. They have the rights to distribute the game to anyone they want, and when it comes to the US, face it, there are more 360's then PS3's at this time.

Everyone has this "mine.. mine..mine" mindset when it comes to there favorite console, but when companies do not look at that, they look at costs to create (in this case, port) verses the profits that they can make. There are some contracts that are signed when a game maker picks what console to bring out a game on, but most of those are only for so long. Also, this is NOT THE CASE with FF7, since as some has already pointed out, it came out on PC as well.
This is a classic game that rocked to play, let everyone who wants to play it, play it.. demanding that Square not release a game on a different system then YOU OWN, since you personally do not like the other system is just bs, get over yourself.

how exactly would they fit such an insanely large game on XBLA? that's my question...

Posted by mb24 - Thursday, July 24, 2008 5:13 AM
wasnt sony the one to publish ff7?

if so how would it go to xbla without some deals being made?

Posted by blakseed - Thursday, July 24, 2008 1:02 AM
Anyone give a damn about Final Fantasy 12? I 'm still playing that. It's still on PS2 last time I cheaked. Great game. That before FF13.

Posted by Shadow454 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:44 PM
one of the funniest things is people are complaining ff13 is goin to xbox but they never said anything about ff13vs goin to xbox so we still have one more exclusive ff =)

Actually, I think that FFVII will be fine (as far as the space usage), I have it for the pc and it only uses up 232Mb, so it should be fine with the 350mb max xbox has for its arcade downloads. I'm only wondering about how many xbox points its going to cost, I mean are they going to charge the average amount (400-800 ms points) or are they going to charge it like the do there xbox originals and charge 1400 points.

@G4maniac14
You are selfish and narrow minded.

I would be extremely upset if they released FFVII onto XBLA or PSN...this is such a classic game that i'm playing EVEN NOW...if you could understand the amount of time I spent playing this game at LEAST 10 times..NO JOKE..And for sony to release it for the PS3 would destroy everything that makes FFVII such an amazingly classic game. I'm holding my prayers for BOTH being false...

Nonsmoker

They arent remaking FF7.......Square has been denying it, And they did the same for N64 teaser for FF8,Fanboys took it out of what it was suppost to be. Its nothing more than to show off.

Posted by nonsmoker101 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 6:16 PM
You guys are retarded.
Remake is going to be on PS3
original is going on xbla and psn.
But,if the remake is true,hell to the effing yes.
Its not like X-Live guys actually buy downloadable games. But,on ps3, this sounds like a cosh cow :]

Posted by mafia28 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 4:53 PM
it was published by sony so i dont see it coming to 360, thats wut they said on xplay about gears going to 360, publishers do have alot of power

and for all the ff7 maniacs(myself included)in tw0 weeks(aug 2) square will have a huge announcment bout the ff7 franchise, i think u all know were im going.

Posted by Galen20K - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 4:36 PM
I Still have my Mint COpies of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Greatest Hits version and I'd STILL Buy it for BOTH my 360 AND PS3, its just THAT AMAZING a story!!!

i would be very upset if xbl got ff7, but sony kinda wont let that happen....john manalang, its called research buddy. And if we get a remake for the ps3, thats ANOTHER game that i will be first in line to buy. Ive been waiting for more ff7 for 10 years, it is the best rpg ive ever played and my favorite game of all time...but every sony fanboy thinks that. Sorry staychisel, this one isnt gonna work out for you, dont get too excited

Posted by grunto - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 3:15 PM
@unjaked
The exclusives as of now.
Res2
GOW3
MAG
Motorstorm 2
SOCOM: Confrontation
Killzone 2
Little Big Planet

If u honestly think any single 1 of these titles is going multi, then ur a damn fool. Sony owns all rights to these games.

And dont talk about loss of exclusivity, as I recall Bioshock, is going multi. Also I can get any decent exclusive title on the 360, for my PC. Im not gonna shell out $450 to get the only version worth a damn when I can get the games on my PC. Which has longer staying power than the 360 or the PS3

About ff7 on PSN, I think it will be a good fit. PSN has a crapload of quality downloadable games. Of all sizes ranging from Warhawk/Socom to Stardust HD.

Posted by Sandrock323 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 3:13 PM
Sony did not publish the game in Japan which probably means they do not have any rights in the game except those related to foreign PS1 releases. They may have gotten it for PS releases and those secured the rights to any foreign PS3 releases. However that dose not stop squire from releasing it on other consuls.

WTF?! So the game is so good, you don't want others to experience it? That doesn't make any sense.

Posted by dewmandew7 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:44 PM
Also, Sony published the original Final Fantasy VII. Doesn't that give them the rights to it?

Posted by dewmandew7 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:43 PM
Final Fantasy VII spanned three CD's... isn't that too big for XBLA? Yes, they don't have to copy some of the assets multiple times, but we can assume that the game requires at least 1 GB of data. XBLA files can not exceed 350 MB. Of course, compression technology has come a long way.

Posted by UnJaked - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:43 PM
Hell yeah I'd also be all over it if the add it to XBLA or remake it that would be the best count me in and get over it POS 3 boys. FF 13 is going xbox and look for more of your exclusives to follow suit. LOL

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:38 PM
I would love to have a copy of secret of mana and rock n roll racing also. But I would rather they release them for xbl or psn or the wii for that matter. If it is a good game and they can make money off of it, why should they not release it.

Posted by cmdluke - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:36 PM
yeah.

funny story of how I recently got a copy of the black spined version,
I was graduating college, and I was hanging out while my wife was taking a bath. She told me to go get the package in the other room. I didn't even know she got me anything. I went to open it, and accidently dropped it in her bath. she started freaking out cause she knew what it was. thankfully, it was only in there for like a second and it was still wrapped so no damage, but damn =)

Posted by WhereAmI1980 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:32 PM
@cmdluke

I HATE THOSE GREEN SPINED GREATEST HITS COPYS!!!!!!! lol

Posted by cmdluke - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:30 PM
@WhereAmI1980

I know, thats why I said upwards of $100. a brand new, sealed copy of the original black spine copy would go for around 100. the green spined, greatest hits copy you could get for much less =)

@G4maniac14

STOP HITTING REFRESH EVERY DAMN MINUTE AND REPOSTING YOUR DAMN COMMENT! WE GET IT ALREADY!

Posted by WhereAmI1980 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:23 PM
@cmdluke
you can buy a good copy of FF7 for like $30 on Ebay...

I think sony does partially own the IP.

I not saying the game would be bad if it went multiplatform...

i just pointing out that Sony wouldn't let this be on LIVE.

Like I said, this won't even be on the PSN. Its just a rumor.

and if does come out, it will only be on Japan's PSN. they get all the good stuff!!!

hetman,
actually, it is a rare game. its the one FF game for original PS that is no longer being produced. new copies of the game go for upwards of $100. a new copy of 8 or 9 is $20 NIB.

Posted by hetman - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:08 PM
@G3maniac. That is really the most insane rant I have ever heard. If it is a great game why should everyone not enjoy it? I mean I could easily buy a ps3/ps2 and the game. Its not a rare game. I just do not understand your logic. That being said I have never played it but if they released it for xbl I would probably buy it.

Posted by ddf - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 2:02 PM
i dont like rpg game

Posted by BlueHawaiiSurfe - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:57 PM
Why would anyone consider publishing this for the 360?!?! Oh I don't know, millions of people own that system and they could make a LOT of money doing it??!?! I'm all for them running it multi-plat. Let everyone get a chance to play it. And who the hell thinks this will RUIN it?? It's a classic game so they should never publish the game again?!?! Great point...when I say great I mean stupid. Good for them. Hey sony fanbois, the franchise was on Nintendo in 1987, relax, it's not the holy grail.

Posted by little_eddy - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:52 PM
@ jmecase

the xbox fans will be acting the same way if Gears of war went to the ps3.

@RIDDLER

Sony publishing the game on its platform means nothing. Its the ip holder that matters. A perfect example of this is nintendo publishing the banjo games on n64. Nintendo has no say in what happins with banjo because MS owns the ip.

Posted by cmdluke - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:43 PM
I saw the little tease scroll on G4 last week about how Square-Enix has a bit announcement concerning the FFVII series for a convention in japan on august 2-3. I was hoping for a remake announcement. This would kind of suck because most people who would care already own the game. I just beat the game again a couple months ago.

Posted by jmecase - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:38 PM
I still don't understand why people get their panties in a bunch because a game goes multi-platform. Especially FF VII. It's not like they are gonna make it for one console then port an inferior product to the other console.

Posted by RIDDLER - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:32 PM
hello it was publish by sony so take a hold plz

Posted by 4theloveof - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:30 PM
@batmandrew

Something people seem to overlook is the fact that the game was also on the PC. So if you view the PC as a gaming platform, however prohibitive the barrier to entry. Then final fantasy has been multi platform for a long time. As a matter of fact, square's ip's have also been on ds and gamecube. So in fact square hasn't changed or betrayed anyone. People have betrayed themselves with their narrow closed minded understanding.

It's fine to prefer one console over another for whatever reason, but people do themselves a disservice when they allow that preference to distort actual fact. Think about how many people have cried foul over ff xiii going multi plat, when multi plat is not new for square at all. If people would allow themselves to see beyond themselves, they might just realize what other great experiences there are to be had out there.

Posted by WhereAmI1980 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:29 PM
hey i don't want to party pooper to anyone but Sony published FF7 in the US and Europe.

so they partially own it with SE...

so i doubt we will ever see this on Live, hell I doubt we will see this even on PSN... most likely on on Japan's PSN.

But I rather have a next gen remake anyways...

Posted by kikook - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:29 PM
Who cares if its for XBLA everyone has it basically anyway....

Posted by GreenQuadrant - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:24 PM
@ AltairDarknight

Really? I thought MS recently upped the limit to 350MB. Besides, I don't think FFVII is anywhere near a gig but I could be wrong.

I've never liked FF series because I dispised turn-based combat and Chrono Trigger is probably the only game I ever tolerated the turn-based combat system.

Posted by EAmaddenFTW - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:13 PM
Hmmmm.....

If it's a straight port, it could hit the 150mb limit on LIVE, But if it's skinned with PS2-worthy graphics and animation (Warranting making it a download as opposed to a full retail game) Then M'soft better lift that cap to 2 gigs or something.

But even so...This just sounds like wishful thinking to me.

Posted by staychisel - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:09 PM
the gta series was always on the ps system first and when gta4 came out, 360 owners made them millions, if not billions. i would definitely buy this on xbla.

Posted by darkmanXL - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:09 PM
I think its great that is goes to 360, for this reason Ps3 owners including myself have already played and experienced it.. This was the game that brought Rpgs into the mainstream, why should ppl who only have a 360 be denied? I have both and I will get it for Ps3, but 360 owners hoave have a chance to play it too..

Posted by little_eddy - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:08 PM
XBLA WTF!!!!!!!!! Not that one too.

Posted by Sandrock323 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:04 PM
I never played this one so a XBLA port wouldn't be a bad idea, and a full fledged remake for both consuls would be nice too.

Posted by G4maniac14 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 1:04 PM

If they do remake FF7, they should do it for the Wii. It would be a good nod to the company that made Square what it is today, and also a more appropriate system to house the graphical content of the original, even if rendered in full 3D.

Posted by philhuddy - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:59 PM
FF7 is the only RPG game i ever liked. id be all over the XBLA version in a heartbeat!

hope they add achievements as well.

but if this isnt happening, FF13 should make up for it.

Exactly.

I'd be all for a remake with improved graphics/cutscenes and added voice overs.

Posted by MrBig200 - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:55 PM
@Batmandrew the same why FF13 is coming to X-box because more gamers own an 360 then a PS3

yay FF7 on PSN and X-box live not that I care since I still have the three disc

Posted by moose_ - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:54 PM
I would be excited about this if I didn't already own the game.

Posted by batmandrew - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:51 PM
I was never a big fan of this game but i think if it started on PS then it should remain on PS. Why would you put it on XBox?

Posted by tarshimo - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:50 PM
at first I thought "why would it go to the XBLA" and then I remembered that final fantasy 13 is coming to the 360. So I guess it makes sense, and I still havent beaten this game so I think I might get it if it comes out.

Posted by crimean - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:47 PM
Speaking only to the PS3 remake. As a game fan I think I can speak for everyone. Woo remakes! I'm tired of new things, they're scary.
I DO get it from a business standpoint, but it's still a diversion of time and labor. Yes, some people haven't gotten a chance to play the game so please do provide the PSN/XBLA ports.

Posted by tedcwilliams - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:41 PM
I'm not an RPG guy, but if I'm Square Enix, Sony or Microsoft, I'm doing all I can to get this onto my online marketplace ASAP. This has "cash cow" written all over it, and it may be a great way to measure the online download market.
