Mattrick: Xbox Will Crush PS3

At the annual Microsoft E3 conference today, Microsoft's senior vice president for interactive entertainment Don Mattrick confidently predicted the future, saying that the "Xbox 360 will outsell the PS3 in this generation."

He said over a billion dollars has been spent on Xbox Live downloads.

After showing off footage of the 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII, Mattrick said:

"[There is] a long list of former PlayStation franchises are now finding a new home on 360. It’s happened with Guitar Hero, it’s happened with Madden and now it’s happening with Resident Evil and Final Fantasy.”

With a price drop and a Maga hit like FF13 on its way, it will be a big hit on Xbox 360 like GTA4 and Guitar Hero, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Ace Combat 4, Madden and many, many more. To be fair. Exclusives from third party developers are over pretty much. FF13 may be on Xbox 360 in Japan too. Square never said they will not release an Xbox 360 version in Japan. So don't make things up. Xbox 360 is a huge competition for Sony and Microsoft has alot of money to keep beating Sony in their game. The new interface dashboard, Avatars, Live, Huge library of games and exclusives, FF13 and many former PS3 exclusives, and lower price for the system.

Ps3 Pros: Some great titles. and have very few hardware issues.

360 Pros: awesome lineup of games. Easy to navigate dashboard.

ps3 cons: the dashboard is for the younger generation. Hard to navigate.

360 cons: hardware hardware hardware. My god I'm on my 5th console now.

Both have pros and cons. Neither will win. 360 won't. Ps3 won't.

you want to talk about games. microsoft may have alot of games on but have you noticed there are only so many games that make the system. Halo, Gears of war, mass effect, and oh yeah thats it. The only reason microsoft make alot of money is because there are alot of little morons like youreselves that like stupid games like halo, i will give gears its credit its an ok game but not the best. The fact is this the Xbox by this years end will have 23 Mill units sold to the ps3 17 at this point the new Xbox will be on its way there for once again jumping off sales and leaving sony out to dry that is the nice thing about a company on a 5 year cycle instead of a 10 year you dont wast time make games like god of war 2 for your old unit you make for the new one and you can then make money insted of loseing 3.3 billon $

Nintendo fans will always be loyal because the can remember back in the day when Nintendo was on top now Nintendo is not even next gen not high def the couldn't compete with the PS3 or The Xbox 360 the just try to reach the kids so the can pull all of the parents money by giving the kiddies what the want.

the ONE and ONLY reason ps3 is outselling the 360 is just about EVERYONE owns a 360 already...i honestly cannot name a friend of mine that does not have a 360 or one that likes a ps3................ps3 just doesnt have the software yet to compete...great hardware just a lil dull on the software...sure maybe theres one or two like metal gear and resistance......but none can rival wat the 360 has...LONG LIVE the 360!

Nintendo hardware Sells out.. Games not so much

Microsoft sells alot of hardware and alot of games.. the 360 used section is largest.

Sony sells very few PS3's and little software.. smallest section in the store.
selling alot of PS2's and PSP's tho.

SHUT UP FANBOYS. Get each system. I dont have a PS3 because I cant afford it. I would love to put it next to my 360 and Wii. A point that should be noticed here is that the title is totally misleading in the article. Mattrick (love him or hate him) only showed the sales figures since 360 launch compared to those of the other systems. HE NEVER SAID PS3 AND SONY WOULD BE CRUSHED. Technically, Sony is in last and catching up. He only stated that 360 was ahead by a small margin. I think all of you people saying "360 are fur n00bs. Mattricks is teh go to teh HELL!!!!!!!" should watch the coverage instead of going by this biased article. (Biased being for PS3 as all it does it get you pissed.)

Mostly everyone on this thread are PS3 Fanboys. Mattrick is 99.99% correct. The only thing that PS3 has over the 360 is BluRay. Plus, there is only 2 games that are exclusive to PS3 that 360 owners should be scared about, God of War 3 and Little Big Planet. Everything else (Killzone 2, Resistance 2, etc), the 3600 has their own port of the same kind. I own all 3 systems, so I have nothing against each, but I PERSONALLY beleive that this is the year of the Xbox 360.

Well this guys statement is true considering MS is dropping the 360 next year.... sure they can claim they sold more than the PS3 if they are the first in and the first out....

1 billion in DLC sales.... and he said 500k people on XBL... that means they all spent $2... not very impressive.... the micro mii's look like crap... FFXIII is still coming to the PS3 so I wouldn't call that a victory... paying 3rd parties to do extra stuff for you just so you can hope to stay on top... is very desperate...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for about the last 2 years hasn't x-play constantly saying how much they don't like recent FF games? And yet after 1 trailer for FF XIII they suddenly can't w8 for it.

Who knows this game might be really good, but I can't judge it because G4's cameras were so far back during the trailer that all I could see was a bunch of flashing colors and very small print words.

dont worry staychisel-they will, and just a hunch, they may showcase more than 2 exclusives. It was hilarious how ms made g4 use the wide camera angle on the FF13 trailer. Presumably so the audience wouldnt catch on to the fact that they were looking at PS3 FOOTAGE!!!! Leave it to those morons to showcase footage from another console during their biggest presser of the year, and also karaoke. Seems to me that MS doesent want to challenge sony, so they going for more kids and the wii crowd.

@ stormninja4 you might not wonna get so upset over yet another better thing added to the 360 that PS3 does not have YES the avatars do resemble the Wii's but you have to remember you can only use a very small amount of customizability and details i an online character due to the fact that there is only so much one could handle especially with games being played on their servers all day if thay get too detaild you get a server crash.The guys at Nintendo saw that and made the Mii.
Oh ya by the way EA will one day rule the consoul universe. Thay will make a consoul...you see.

I don't care what others say.. I believe PS3 will make it.. I have faith.. this guy is not gonna spoil my love for PLAYSTATION.. Although it was annoying hearing delays about HOME.. been a disappointment to us fans.... lets see what they say at E3 today.. maybe it was worth the wait..PS3 is catching up.. that is a fact. Microsoft always criticizes SONY .. Sony doesn't say much.. they always let Microsoft run their mouth... but there were a few itsy bitsy times when they said something about Microsoft but they don't criticize. Don Mattrick will realize he should keep his mouth shut.. The people who doubt PS3 will win.. PLAYSTATION will prove'em wrong.

ShinGino you are incorrect the Microsoft Confrence at E3 yesterday said that Final Fantasy 13 would be released at the same time as the PS3 version.

Beside from that everyone who believes that PS3 owns the 360 you might wonna get some more decent games before bragging how much better your consoul is then the 360. The bottom line is AGIN(not very often)the Fanboy's overplayed the hype on the PS3. I personally think that the PS2 owns the PS3 by a very large margin.

P.S.: Hardware Failure is an unavoidable plauge Nintendo Wii owners beware.

I used to be a sony fanboy but now it's truly all about the 360. Microsoft is going to and has already rocked the videogame world they have a marvelous game library and they have made the ultimate system to date very affordable compared to the PS3. Yeah the Ps3 may have the blu-ray player but it still in my opinion isn't nothing compared to Microsoft's masterpiece. The 360 is the top dog with this new gaming generation and it is going to over throw Sony in the console war. Especially if sony doesn't make any price drops or pull something out of their greedy butts XBOX will rule it all. With that all there is left to say is FFXIII is coming to the 360........yeah baby....yeah...eat that sony

I think its way to early in the game to try to even declare a winner in the console wars. Nintendo is making a huge move in this area out selling both PS3 and XBOX 360 almost 2:1 if I remember correctly. As for console sales of the other two platforms I think you need to take into account the people that are buying the PS3 because its one of the least expensive bluetooth systems on the market right now. These people are only purchasing it for that reason and have no intent on purchasing let alone playing games on the unit. as for Microsoft they totally dropped the ball early on with the red ring of death debacle. this is going to haunt them for some time to come. Of course the recent drop in prices will help them to recoupe a little but I'm not really sure how much.

As for me I currently own a 360 and a wii, but from touching bases with a friend the primary issues with the PS3's is the download times for patches on games and system upgrades.

I have both consoles x 2.

My PS3's are used primarily for watching DVD's and the XBOX's are used daily.

Rockband, COD 4 etc etc. Point is, yes Microsoft are slowing down but they're still beating Sony's ass. Sony know it. Can you Say TROPHIES. Oh but hang on... you only get trophies for Superstar Dust HD.

Achievements seem to be a hook on the 360, let's copy Microsoft.. I wonder what HOME will be like... *cough* xbox LIVE.

Yeah, 360's die alot *touch wood* I've got a launch elite and it's fine. Point is, Microsoft have a winning online service that allows you to chat, message and see what people are doing flawlessly. That's why they're winning and that's why they'll win.

Sony are sitting with their fingers up their backsides and taking it. They deserve to fail. I like my PS3's, great DVD players, but my 360 is even better at playing games with my friends.

I don't think any consoles will be killed. ps3 will finish last, m$ will continue to be mediocre, and wii will win

I don't know why the wii isn't dying, there SEEM to be no good games rite now, looks like we'll have to wait till tomorrow, but it will win because the children that will eat up all of it

Microsoft is frankly, lame, and the only reason some prefer multiplatform games on it is because of xbox live, and the multitude of people playing that. yes, they deserve credit for being the first to put out HD games, but, they did a sloppy job with all the disc scratching and the red ring scam.

The PS3 IS 3.3 million in the hole, but i believe it will catch up soon. Yes, they were only second when it came to HD, BUT they did a better job. Now i know that i LOVE my ps3, and will NEVER buy a 360.

BUT, if nintendo brought HD to the table, then BOTH ps3 and 360 would have died, just know that fanboys, and your ugly little 360 would have been crushed along with the ps3...

overall i am excited since i do own a 360. but sony will always have a place in my heart for the good memories they bring me. but will still buy FFXIII for my PS3.

Okay, this is my stand point on this, but don't rip me. I've always been neutral in this position. However, with this news I believe Sony is in HUGE TROUBLE. Square-Enix is a third party developer, yes. But look at the sales that it brings to Sony and the PS brand. It was a reliable source for Sony's continued success. MSoft has just dealt Sony a killing blow. They "stole"/acquired, whatever the hell you wanna call it from Sony. This means, that after TWO WHOLE YEARS of touting PS3 exclusivity, it turns out, it's NOT. This also hurts Sony in the long run. I'm calling it right here, right now: Final Fantasy is forever now a multi-platform release. FFVSXIII is a tourniquet for Sony to lick their wounds. If FFXIII pulls a GTAIV for the 360, then Sony loses this generation BIG TIME. The BIGGEST blow that MSoft dealt is that, you can't BELIEVE Sony anymore than you already could this generation. Their word is worth NOTHING.

I dont care about hardware. I have just about as much fun with my SNES playing SimCity as I do playing Bad Company on my 360. As far as exclusives go, its totally irrelevant. I dont see any system being knocked out here. THEY ARE OWNED BY MULTIBILLION DOLLAR CORPORATIONS. I just watched the coverage and Mattrick never says that PS3 will be crushed. He simply points out the correct sales figures. Im an Xbox fanboy but the only reason I dont have a PS3 is because I cant afford one. What else would you expect to hear from a person in his position? Of course he's gonna call out the competition...it's his job. Especially in a format such as E3. Geez...

As for announcements of non-exclusivity...sure, it'll damage the company that a developer has been loyal to for some time, to some extent. But in this day in age, with costs of development rising, companies are forced to do whatever it takes to make sure they turn a profit as fast as possible. It's a business, you know. That's how it works. You'll make more money selling for multiple consoles versus just one.

Its true that Insomniac is not a 1st party developer for Sony but with all the work they have put in for Sony they would never take one of their games to another system. Hell we got Resistance2 which is going to kick some serious ass coming out this fall. Also I dont see what was so impessive about the conference today. They had what 2 exclusive titles to show and the rest were multiplatform titles. Also Gears 2 looked good but not enough for me to go out and buy a 360.

KillZone 2 has been one of the longest games ever to be developed. Over 5 years it has taken them, and was to release at the beginning of 2007, but was pushed to feb. 2009. The graphics and story line are phonominal. KillZone 1 may have sucked, but the reports/reviews that had seen killzone 2 in june 2007 said that the graphics were very realistic; that was a year ago, just think how good the graphics are now! This game will excite any PS3 fan, betting that it will outsell H3

360 software is selling faster than the PS3 software or the Wii. And what makes a console do well? Games. Duh, not that hard to figure out. With great titles like Fallout and GTA4 having DLC only on the 360, well, that just sweetens the pot. The whole avatar party idea will make playing online with your friends easier and with XBL already being a great service, good times. On top of that the 360 has Fable and Gears 2 as exclusives, looking good..... but we'll see what the other companies have up their sleeve.

Although microsoft has yet to release a good RPG (in my opinion) it has had success in other areas. What really sets the 360 apart from the wii and the PS3, is XBOX Live. A billion dollars in downloadable content seems pretty impressive to me. I have yet to play a truly impressive title on the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 was not what I expected, good but not great when you compare it to its history. I agree with X_Chris_X in that they are all business men and as a smart business man you put your best foot forward.

the conference was good but the avatar thing looks awful in my point of view, but being able to watch movies together is cool and NETFLIX will be awesome, and other interactive stuff, but what makes live is the amount of people play online and games like gears 2 will improve live, and games like fable innovate live. he is payed to show all this information, and PS3 will do the same thing but wont look as impressive.

I recorded the MS conference watching it now.......not impressed. it is the same thing like last year. Dumbass. The 360 DID cost M$ billions. Did you forget that so many 360's failed and continue to do so? M$ probably lost more fixing their blunder than Sony did to release superior hardware. And the clincher is the 360 is actually more expensive once you consider spending $300-$400 over the lifetime of the console for online gaming. PS3 is the better deal but the 360 fanboys will always try to hide the truth.

Consider that the xbox360 is 2 YEARS older than the ps3 yet it's console sales are not double of it, incase you do not know what this means? Ps3 is technically doing better, in a year's worth of time. If Ps3 has progressed so quickly in this year and a half, IF it goes at the same speed it will pass 360, if 360 speeds up enough or ps3 slows down drastically then 360 will beat it.

As it is now, Ps3 would probably officially surpass 360 in 7 month's time, more or less.

Wii has pretty much double the sales of both, =P
Obviously 360 got punted by the Wii, but im not hear to talk crap, just pointing stuff out.

you sir are an idiot. I don't think that resident evil was a playstation exclusive at all. The Gamecube got most of the resident evil love last generation with the ps2 getting a port of RE4. Final Fantasy really wasn't a exclusive thing either, shared between sony home consoles and nintendo handheld consoles. The ps3 is catching up if you haven't noticed and I think that the "you can install your game on your HDD" thing is looking a lot like the game installs on the ps3. idk but it looks that way

Xbox 360 was released November 22nd of 2005,
they have sold just over 19 million units.

Nintendo Wii was released November 19th of 2006, they have sold over 28 million units.

Playstation 3 was released November 11th of 2006, they have sold over 13 million units.

Microsoft seems to think that they are winning this battle between the three systems. They think this because they have more games (75% that sucks like most games do now a days) better service and hardware. PS3 is far from perfect, but they are technically doing better then Microsoft.

PS3's hardware failure rate is less then 1%
X360's is still around 30%

Most of the games on both consoles suck because the industry sucks.
Overall the PS3 is doing much better (and FFXIII wont save 360)

p.s. As an owner of all consoles i can honestly say Cliff B. can take GOW2 and shove it. MGS4 was epic and possible the greatest game of this generation to date.

you sir are an idiot. I don't think that resident evil was a playstation exclusive at all. The Gamecube got most of the resident evil love last generation with the ps2 getting a port of RE4. Final Fantasy really wasn't a exclusive thing either, shared between sony home consoles and nintendo handheld consoles. The ps3 is catching up if you haven't noticed and I think that the "you can install your game on your HDD" thing is looking a lot like the game installs on the ps3. idk but it looks that way

Microsoft is scared crap less of PS3. KillZone 2 is going to wipe H3 off the map. And as far as Gears of War 2 goes..... will see if it will outsell Resistence 2. Dont get me wrong Xbox 360 has some good games, but PS3 games have always lived up to their name. But what The VP of microsoft said was way out of proportion.

The thing is, the PS3 is mathematically eliminated from ever catching up to the Xbox360. MS has outsold Sony by such a significant margin, that it would literally take MS to stop selling the console now for Sony to catch up in this gen's last 2-3 years.

For example, if Sony was able to outsell the 360 by 100,000 units every month, it would take Sony 50 months just to make up the current 5 million difference.

So what's the lesson? Sony will finish third, but that doesn't make the software on the PS3 suddenly crap. Unless you own stock in Sony, the sales difference should mean nothing to the average gamer.

Can people not read, he said "Xbox 360 will outsell the PS3 in this generation." He did not say it would crush them like the heading of this article alludes to… So chill out, second as of right now the 360 is outselling the ps3 and has almost a 6 million lead.

Also to whatever tool that stated the ps3 is coming back, last week the ps3 sold 10 k less in America than the 360 and only beat the 360 worldwide by 20k, its moving quickly up the charts... at that rate it will pass the 360 in 6 years. This is with the amazing game of MGS 4 coming out two weeks ago and can’t move any ps3. (PS… PS3 owners should be ashamed if they did not buy MGS 4, that game is phenomenal and I am jealous that its not on the 360)

it would be a waste of time to put the game on 360 in japan. 360 is selling like crap so it would just be a waste in the end to work on something that they know will sell like hotcakes on the ps3. and one other thing, let's think about this for a minute too, God of War is a first party game. Do you know what happens with first party games? do you? THEY STAY ON THE SYSTEM THEY ARE MADE FOR! That's why you won't see Master Chief on the wii or ps3 or mario on 360 or ps3 they are first party developed games. Just to be clear about it, first party games DO NOT go multi-platform, ok? ok, good

And to all of you losers, Just because he says it doesnt make it true, The Japanese people wont just buy a 360 because FF is on it(Thats the reason they needed it soo bad) And FF never started on the Ps3. And lastly we dont know anything from Sony yet, They could have something that will hurt the 360 50 times more. Dont forget who sold more consoles between the Ps3 and 360 for almost a year yes the Ps3 the people are buying it get over it.

That guy is an ass. I really don't think that Microsoft's E3 conference was that awesome it was more like a big meh. And the entire Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox 360 I didn't think it wasn't, I never knew it was exclusive. And Rock band and Guitar Hero I never liked. And lips looks like a singstar rip off and both are something that I wouldn't play same as Rock band and Guitar Hero. I think the best thing that they had was the dashboard update but they could have just announced it like Sony did. And as for the "exclusives" that they keep "stealing" from Sony I have two things to say first I have both so I really don't care which console they come out on. And second what ever comes out on the Xbox 360 will most likely be out for the PC so all you really need is a PC and a PlayStation 3 to get all the good games.

Yeaaaa... Mass Effect wasn't that great. It was WAY too repetitive. But I really don't see Resistance, Motorstorm, or Killzone as threats because 360 has H3, GoW, and the multiplatform CoD4. The only exclusive Sony has that I care about is God of War 3. If they lost that they'd probably be over.

Btw, I'm not sure if FFXIII will stay away from japan on 360. If they take the time to translate it for the PS3 version then it wouldn't be very hard to switch it to 360 as well for the region.

You do know that FF isnt nearly as popular in Japan as it is here right? Dragon Quest is the biggest RPG in Japan by far and thats going to be a NDS exclusive.

Also does everyone forget about what FF7 going to the PS1 did to the N64? Yea pretty much killed it. Sony has been loseing games left and right, many of there talked up games like Resistance, Motorstorm, and Warhawk arent nearly as good of games as whats been comming from Microsoft; Mass Effect and Halo 3.

Technically, the GPU in the 360 is more advanced, and it's easier to take advantage of the 360's CPU. The PS3 still does have MGS (MGS4 ended Solid Snake's missions though). Guitar Hero was an exclusive until the 360 version of Guitar Hero 2, and Madden was an exclusive a long ways back.

The PS3 has sold faster than the 360 for the past few months, but that could be because of many factors.

Rofl. What a fool. They said the same thing about Wii failing and look how wrong they are. M$ knows they're getting crushed, a few more ports isn't gonna save it from the scrap heap. The shoddy hardware and inferior online system ensure this console will never win. Hell, it only manages to sell in the US, the other countries were smart enough to move on.
