Yes, Spider-fans are engaged in a battle that’s as polarizing as the Civil War event that spawned it: Love “the unmasking” -- or hate it. Me, I’m excited to see the new stories that emerge from this major character upheaval. And for the purists who want Spidey’s identity kept a secret, well, there’s always Ultimate Spider-Man. I know, I know, the unmasking takes away one of the most beloved things about Mr. Webby-pants: The fact that he’s a poor chump during the day who only wishes he could tell people that he dons tights and saves the world by night. But before you yell that this ruins a classic character forever, let me remind you that back in the day, people claimed Frank Miller destroyed the Dark Knight by setting up an adversarial between Batman Superman in “The Dark Knight Returns.” In my humble opinion, that “massive upheaval” led to some of the best DC stories ever told. I’m curious to see the Spidey stories this unmasking lets Marvel tell.

I think it's time they unmasked Peter. They can't go on forever without doing something daring like that.

The idea behind all of this is very interesting but Peter unmasking may as well be Superman dying. It's done to move books. Could we get some interesting stories out of it? sure. Could we have still gotten them had he NOT unmasked? Of course.
