Eric Eckstein:
The panel's running late to start, but we're in position!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:36 Eric Eckstein
3:36
Eric Eckstein:
Guillermo del Toro and Casey Mulligan are all to blame!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:36 Eric Eckstein
3:38
Eric Eckstein:
Sorry, didn't mean to mislead. del Toro was in the previous panel for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, I believe.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:38 Eric Eckstein

[Comment From thenewloonthenewloon: ]
do we need what film is leading off?
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:38 thenewloon
3:39
Eric Eckstein:
Honestly, NO IDEA. But the lights are dimming, and I'll relay messages from our own Moye Ishimoto until she gets hooked in to the internets!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:39 Eric Eckstein
3:39
Eric Eckstein:
Keep in mind, Comic-Con does not allow us to broadcast or live stream panels, so we're live blogging them to share any updates we learn.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:39 Eric Eckstein
3:40
Eric Eckstein:
That also means they'll probably show us videos that we can't show you just yet, but again, we'll try to give you a taste of what it is.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:40 Eric Eckstein
3:42
Eric Eckstein:
I had seen somewhere that Ridley Scott was supposed to be here for Prometheus... so we'll see.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:42 Eric Eckstein
3:43
Eric Eckstein:
Moderator Damon Lindelof of LOST fame is here.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:43 Eric Eckstein
3:43
Eric Eckstein:
And yes, we're starting off with some updates around Prometheus!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:43 Eric Eckstein
3:44
Eric Eckstein:
Damon is telling the audience how Ridley Scott called him about a script for his thoughts. He asked if it was an Alien prequel and that's how the project got started.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:44 Eric Eckstein
3:44
Eric Eckstein:
We get a first look... and it's a montage of Scott's movies...and now we're in space!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:44 Eric Eckstein
3:45
Eric Eckstein:
Ridley is talking to us from an immense set. He's describing the focus on the tiny details in the script.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:45 Eric Eckstein
3:45
Eric Eckstein:
The story is based on the idea of what may be out there and finding alien life, and their "uncivilized" way of life.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:45 Eric Eckstein
3:45
Eric Eckstein:
AKA killing humans.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:45 Eric Eckstein
3:46
Eric Eckstein:
The movie has the DNA of the Alien saga but everything else in the film is new and original. His plan is to "scare the living shit out of you!"
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:46 Eric Eckstein
3:46
Eric Eckstein:
And that's the perfect time to bring out Academy award-winning actress Charlize Theron out on the stage.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:46 Eric Eckstein
3:46
Eric Eckstein:
How did Charlize get involved with Prometheus?
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:46 Eric Eckstein
3:46
Eric Eckstein:
Lots of money, she says. That's a joke!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:46 Eric Eckstein
3:47
Eric Eckstein:
Charlize worked closely with Damon and Ridley on the script to bring it where it is today.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:47 Eric Eckstein
3:47
Eric Eckstein:
Damon comments about Charlize's scene doing naked push-ups...
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:47 Eric Eckstein
3:48
Eric Eckstein:
Charlize tells us about her character: she's a machine that runs the machine that runs the space mission. Her character is cold and rigid.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:48 Eric Eckstein
3:49
Eric Eckstein:
Then you realize how she's mysterious and a little suspicious, which she credits Ridley Scott for creating.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:49 Eric Eckstein
3:49
Eric Eckstein:
And she won't give away anything else! BOO!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:49 Eric Eckstein
3:50
Eric Eckstein:
Damon tells us that Ridley is in Iceland now, and shows us a map so that everyone knows that's why he couldn't be here in person today.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:50 Eric Eckstein
3:52
Eric Eckstein:
Charlize says he's here!! SURPRISE!! And Ridley appears.....via satellite, from Iceland (with Bjork!, just kidding)
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:52 Eric Eckstein
3:52
Eric Eckstein:
Director Ridley Scott says the reason why it took so long to return to sci-fi was because he was busy trying other genres.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:52 Eric Eckstein
3:52
Eric Eckstein:
Over time, he realized that the Alien series still held a lot of questions about the world.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:52 Eric Eckstein
3:54
Eric Eckstein:
But Prometheus goes in a completely different direction than the other movies.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:54 Eric Eckstein
3:54
Eric Eckstein:
The film is in 3D, but without a lot of CG.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:54 Eric Eckstein
3:54
Eric Eckstein:
Ridley says that 3D has been a fun exercise for camera work.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:54 Eric Eckstein
3:54
Eric Eckstein:
He learned that doing effects live has always been best, and also cheaper!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:54 Eric Eckstein
3:55
Eric Eckstein:
Damon asks Ridley if he's a replicant.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:55 Eric Eckstein
3:55
Eric Eckstein:
Ridley says he thought Damon was a robot!
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:55 Eric Eckstein
3:56
Eric Eckstein:
Ridley addresses a rumor about a robot in Prometheus. He says there may be 2. Robots and replicants have such a big role in movies now that we have to come up with something new and unique.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:56 Eric Eckstein
3:57
Eric Eckstein:
He credits the cast for having such a good time together on this movie.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:57 Eric Eckstein
3:57
Eric Eckstein:
Ridley tells us about how he put the cast together, saw Girl With A Dragon Tattoo several times and introduces the star to us on camera.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:57 Eric Eckstein
3:59
Eric Eckstein:
He's running through the main cast and how likes them all. Awwww.
Thursday July 21, 2011 3:59 Eric Eckstein
4:01
Eric Eckstein:
Noomi Rapace is telling us how the movie has been a great experience (and that she looks awful!)
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:01 Eric Eckstein
4:02
Eric Eckstein:
Ridley talks about the PG-13 rating and how it has affected him. He knows he has a responsibility here, but he will make sure to make two different versions.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:02 Eric Eckstein
4:03
Eric Eckstein:
So yes, there will be naked push-ups in the movie!
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:03 Eric Eckstein
4:03
Eric Eckstein:
And with that, we're moving on to the next movie... IN TIME with director Andrew Nichols
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:03 Eric Eckstein
4:04
Eric Eckstein:
It's about a world where we stop aging at 25 so you have to buy/steal time to survive.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:04 Eric Eckstein
4:04
Eric Eckstein:
Everyone has a life clock.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:04 Eric Eckstein
4:04
Eric Eckstein:
There is no new tech or rich people because no one has the motivation to continue.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:04 Eric Eckstein
4:05
Eric Eckstein:
Casting was a struggle because he had to find young actors with old souls.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:05 Eric Eckstein
4:07
Eric Eckstein:
I messed up his name before, my bad Andrew Niccol is the director.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:07 Eric Eckstein
4:07
Eric Eckstein:
He shows off a casting reel...and Justin Timberlake is there and so dreamy.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:07 Eric Eckstein
4:08
Eric Eckstein:
Niccol wrote and directed Gattaca, among other films so he's no stranger to high concept flicks.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:08 Eric Eckstein
4:08
Eric Eckstein:
Cillian Murphy is in the movie too.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:08 Eric Eckstein
4:09
Eric Eckstein:
As is "THAT GUY FROM MAD MEN".. lol, I'm not sure who Moye means. heh but look here to see the full cast of pretty people: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1637688/
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:09 Eric Eckstein
4:10
Eric Eckstein:
They show the trailer, and it's not some somber film, but it looks like an action packed thriller!
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:10 Eric Eckstein
4:11
Eric Eckstein:
Whoa, Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake just came on stage.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:11 Eric Eckstein
4:12
Eric Eckstein:
Justin has just popped his SDCC cherry. Thanks Moye for making me write that.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:12 Eric Eckstein
4:13
Eric Eckstein:
Justin tells us how he got the role, and that he was a huge fan of Gattaca and The Truman Show.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:13 Eric Eckstein
4:14
Eric Eckstein:
He liked the character in the future, this ordinary guy trying to stay alive.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:14 Eric Eckstein
4:14
Eric Eckstein:
While Amanda points out how much fun it was for them to shoot guns.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:14 Eric Eckstein
4:14
Eric Eckstein:
Priorities!
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:14 Eric Eckstein
4:15
Eric Eckstein:
Justin's back on his character, telling us about his relationship with Cillian Murphy's character... kind of like Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford in The Fugitive.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:15 Eric Eckstein
4:15
Eric Eckstein:
And this is bizarre... Olivia Wilde plays Justin's mother.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:15 Eric Eckstein
4:15
Eric Eckstein:
No relation to his song, Motherlover.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:15 Eric Eckstein
4:18
Eric Eckstein:
Justin Timberlake tells us how he learned a lot of idiosyncracies from the movie that he still does today.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:18 Eric Eckstein
4:18
Eric Eckstein:
And that's it, done with that movie and moving onto something right around the corner.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:18 Eric Eckstein
4:18
Eric Eckstein:
It's dark..... Mommy?
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:18 Eric Eckstein
4:19
Eric Eckstein:
Ooooh it's the viral video for Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:19 Eric Eckstein
4:19
Eric Eckstein:
There's an ape with an AK-47 and the audience is laughing.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:19 Eric Eckstein
4:19
Eric Eckstein:
The humanity!
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:19 Eric Eckstein
4:19
Eric Eckstein:
Damon Lindelof welcomes director Rupert Wyatt to the stage.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:19 Eric Eckstein
4:20
Eric Eckstein:
Wyatt tells us about why they made a prequel: they wanted to tell the story without using live apes.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:20 Eric Eckstein
4:22
Eric Eckstein:
Instead they opted to use performance capture technology.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:22 Eric Eckstein
4:22
Eric Eckstein:
With our good friend and Gollum maestro, Andy Serkis.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:22 Eric Eckstein
4:22
Eric Eckstein:
They're showing us clips of the tech in action.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:22 Eric Eckstein
4:23
Eric Eckstein:
Why get a monkey when you can get Andy Serkis?? And now he's on the stage.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:23 Eric Eckstein
4:24
Eric Eckstein:
In Rise of the Planet of the Apes, he plays Caesar
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:24 Eric Eckstein
4:25
Eric Eckstein:
An innocent soul who is given a super-intelligent drug. Then he realizes he's not the same as the humans who have raised him.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:25 Eric Eckstein
4:25
Eric Eckstein:

Caesar comes in to defend him and things go really bad.
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:31 Eric Eckstein
4:33
Eric Eckstein:
In a bit of gruesome way. Apes are scary dudes!
Thursday July 21, 2011 4:33 Eric Eckstein
4:34
Eric Eckstein:
Serkis returns on stage to tell us more about the film, where Caesar goes from here to a group of apes.
