Logitech Harmony 1100 Universal Remote Review

As complicated as gadgetry can become, sometimes it's good to keep things simple. That's why Chris Hardwick and Olivia Munn (in a hot tub) examine the Harmony 1100 from Logitech, a universal remote that can turn on multiple components with a 3.5" backlit touch screen and support for over 225,000 devices, all for $300.

What You Need To Know

  • This remote is probably a little different than what you're used to.
  • It's about twice as wide as most remotes in your house, but still fairly light to hold.
  • It's pretty wide, which means you might have to use it with two hands.
  • Other Harmony remotes require you to use their software in order to program it, but this remote has made the process much easier.
  • Just log into the Logitech software and start adding your devices, like your TV, Blu-ray player, receiver, etc.
  • You search for them by their model number.
  • Then you can set up activities, or macros, which will do a bunch of different things at once.
  • For example, if you want to watch TV, the remote can turn on your TV, set it to an HDMI input, then turn on the cable box and receiver.
  • From there, you can customize every hard button on the remote to do anything you want on any device.
  • You can also add different icons on the touch screen that will do any function. We've added a bunch of cable functions like a guide, live TV, menu, etc.
  • Overall, programming can be a little tough so you may need someone who's more tech savvy to take it on.
  • Once the set up is done, it's incredibly easy to use.
  • The touch screen is both impressive and helps use the remote.
  • It allows for "pages" of icons so you're able to customize a ton of different operations.
  • Even though it doesn't feature multi-touch or gestures, it's super responsive.

  • $300.00

  • 3 Seals of Approval out of 5. (How do we rate gadgets?)
  • If you really need a universal remote and are willing to spend top dollar, this is a good choice but it might be a little hard to set up.
