Samsung 8500 LED HDTV Review

If you're looking for a new HD TV, keep an eye on the Samsung 8500 LED TV. Kevin Pereira and Alison Haislip review its 1.6" thick frame, impressive picture quality and downloadable Internet widgets for a mighty $3,800.

What You Need To Know

  • Though the Samsung isn't as thin as the last Samsung TV we reviewed and doesn't have the red "touch of color", it's still just as stylish.
  • All the inputs are cleverly placed on the side so you can mount this on the wall.
  • The television measure 1.6" thick. The subtle gray color on the frame allows the TV to blend in with your living room.
  • This TV has more features than any other set we've reviewed, including 240 Hz smooth motion, Internet widgets, an RF remote, PC media streaming and more.
  • You can customize blur and judder reduction with the 240 Hz feature, so everything looks as natural as possible without the wobbly feeling you can get from smooth motion.
  • There are tons of widgets available, like Yahoo! Sports, weather, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr, but the menus load a little slow.
  • We still like the layout and navigation.
  • The RF remote is very convenient to have.
  • There are too many features to list but overall, it's impressive and really useful.
  • The picture quality was great.
  • This TV has thousands of dynamic backlit LEDs rather than edge-lit LEDs, which means blacks can reach incredibly deep levels.
  • You might have some LED bleeding into darker areas, but it's not very noticeable.
  • The colors are the most vibrant we've seen and extremely accurate.
  • The 240 Hz refresh rate doesn't add a whole lot when compared to 120 Hz, but Samsung still does it the best.

  • $3,800.00

  • A Buy. (How do we rate gadgets?)
  • Even though you're paying a premium for a 55" TV, you're getting your money's worth with an amazingly sleek design, an abundance of features and the best overall picture quality we've seen.

why don't they review an actually good tv like the pioneer elite 141, 111, or 101. and of the elites really. I don't care the Pioneer isnt making tv's anymore but their tv's are still far better than anything on the market.

I've had this tv for 2 months now and it is a amazing. I use it for tv, movies, gaming and for a pc monitor. The only knock is the wigets which are a little slow to load up but that's what my pc is for. If you can afford it, it's totally worth it. It's better than looking outside your window as far as picture quality is concerned.

I've had it for 2 months now and it still amazing! I use it for movies, gaming and pc monitor. The computer wigets are slow but it doesn't matter since my pc is hook to it. If you can afford its worth it.
