MSI Wind Notebook

We slobber all over the MSI Wind Notebook, a PC that is small, compact, and still plays nice with Windows XP.

What You Need to Know

  • Only about a half pound heavier than the ASUS Eee, but it seems a little heavier than expected, sort of top heavy?
  • 1” thick, but rounded edges give it a thinner impression?
  • The case doesn't really attract fingerprints or grime which is a nice change from most tech we see?
  • The wind is about 1” wider than the Eee and this really helps the keyboard; it doesn't feel cramped at all?
  • The touchpad is pretty small though; it's 2x 1.5” ?
  • The mouse click is really annoying; it's a rocker that has a left and right click, but you're constantly hunting for the right side?
  • We ran some 3DMark03 Benchmarks that turned out great?
  • The Intel Atom Processor is a huge jump from the HP's Via and it also has up to 2 gigs of RAM?
  • MSI chose the older Windows XP instead of Vista, but that helps it tremendously; it's not as much of a memory hog?
  • The 80GB hard drive is also really quiet and cool even though it's not a Solid State Drive?
  • The speakers are a little bit weak and it only has 802.11-g wireless?

Price

  • MSI is announcing a price change soon, if not now and it may go as high as $550; it's still an excellent buy
