Star Wars Lineup: The Kevins talked with Caroline, who’s standing in line at Grauman’s Chinese Theater for Episode III on May 19, to ask if she and her fellow Star Wars fans will still wait—even though Revenge of the Sith isn’t currently scheduled to open there. “There are no camping facilities at the ArcLight Theater,” she said of the other Hollywood theater that says it’ll have the premiere. PSP Hacking Begins: In only 24 hours, a hacker was able to enact IRC chat on the Sony PSP. |
| Editor Eric Moro came by to show off his brand spankin’ new magazine, Now Playing. It covers the entertainment terrain favored by discerning geeks: movies, music, television, and gaming. But rather than write about the usual mainstream subjects, Now Playing vows to stay “one step ahead” to give readers a look at important up-and-coming pop culture.
“In a nutshell, Now Playing is one-stop shopping for pop culture,” said Eric. “We have an ability to find hidden gems that may not have hit the mainstream.” The first issue features articles on video game film adaptations, the “Asian Invasion” in Hollywood films, and the rising popularity of anime. Head over to NowPlayingMag.com for more info. |
| If you should happen to find yourself staying in a maximum security penitentiary for any length of time, you’ll soon learn that access to certain objects is quite limited. This would include darn near anything that could be used as a weapon. But fear not! Using common prison items, you can construct your own devices to make your stay more comfortable. These include:
Cigarette Lighter: Just tape some batteries together, extend wire from both ends, and attach them to a coil, which will heat up. Now puff away!
Paper Mache Dice: Bored? Toilet paper to the rescue! Make your own dice to liven up the afternoon.
Tattoo Gun: Just get a tape recorder motor, a sharpened ballpoint pen, the aforementioned batteries, and voila! You are now ready to decorate your skin with marks representative of your various prison kills.
Gretchen: Some rolled up towels, duct tape, and baby oil will solve your issues with loneliness.
Would you believe there’s a whole book of these prison inventions? Visit TemporaryServerices.com for even more zany items. |
| Kevin P. visited SporTVision, the company that figured out how to show the line of scrimmage in televised football games. “Our goal is to make games more fun, to show things you wouldn’t otherwise see,” said director Ken Milnes. Since 1998, SporTVision has been integrating high technology into sporting events. Kevin P. seemed more preoccupied with diagramming his bodily functions onscreen, so you might want to visit SporTVision.com for more info. |
| Go Get ‘Em, Tex: A store owner in Texarkana is suing ISPs for allegedly having non-customers click on web ads to drive up rates.
Outer Limits: Photos of the first planet outside of our solar system are revealed. Calling In Sick: New cell phone viruses are running rampant. Beware of Moon Dust: Scientists say moon dust is scary stuff. |
| Our own globe-trotting Justin Keeling, of G4 Games Editorial, gave Nintendo DS owners some reassurance that they may have some interesting titles coming soon. He gave us a preview of two titles that are currently released in Japan, but that are to be hitting our shores in the next few months.
Pac-Pix by Namco is based on the classic Pacman, but with an unusual twist: You can draw your own Pacman. Will the excitement last long? Hmmmm. See for yourself April 26. Kirby’s Cursed Canvas by Nintendo combines platforming with pinball. “For my money, this is the best DS game out there now,” said Justin. “It’s like nothing else.” It’ll be here June 1. |
| Dell’s latest version of its gaming laptop improves on its predecessor in several ways. Kevin R. liked it quite a bit, but thought it was a tad pricey and the battery life brief. We’ve got a review from Lab Rat Lawson Wong. |
| We received scads of great entries, so we’ve posted a number of them:
