It appears that the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man could be graced with the Wall-Crawler's better known love interest (and eventual wife,) Mary Jane Watson.
Previously played by Kirsten Dunst, the role of Peter Parker's red-headed bombshell is now reportedly being offered to The Descendants star, Shailene Woodley for what would be the 20 year-old actress' first appearance in a big-budget mega-project.
The live-action return of Mary Jane could possibly complicate the relationship between Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker and Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, presenting the possibility of an interesting love triangle.
However, MJ isn't the only rumored addition of signature Spider-Man favorites as more will apparently be thrust into the mix.
Sony is reportedly looking for an actor to portray Peter Parker's best friend, Harry Osborn, who, besides being the son of mysterious industrialist and eventual Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, has also been a love interest for Mary Jane,
Additionally, Peter Parker's complicated love-life may not be the only thing meant to shock audiences as additional rumors have implied that the villain of the film would be the green-jumpsuit-sporting, spark-headed original member of the "kill-Spider-Man" conglomerate, The Sinister SIx, Electro.
While hardly the same financial force at the box-office as its predecessor films directed by Sam Raimi, The Amazing Spider-Man still grossed a respectable $752 million globally and the series will move forward with Marc Webb returning to the helm.
We're already seeing notable differences in the way the events in this rebooted-irradiated web-head's life is unfolding, which is certainly critical in separating it from the (thus far) more successful previous films.
Will the debut of Electro and the inclusion of a ménage à Parker be the right formula for this sequel?
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters more ways than one on May 2, 2014.
