A brand new trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation has hit, highlighting the sequel's explosive, ninja-riffic, more old-school, fan-friendly approach to the film franchise.
Channing Tatum returns as chisel-jawed leading man, Duke, but he may be taking a backseat in the alpha male department to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's heavy-machine-gun-toting Roadblock. Also, the sagely, grizzled, Joe Colton played by Bruce Willis won't sit back and let them hog the testosterone spotlight, either.
Now, instead of running through the streets of Paris in "Accelerator Suits," they're running from their own government after the evil organization, Cobra has infiltrated the White House, making the Joe team public enemy number one in the world.
Check out the trailer below.
While the new direction of the Joe team being on the run mirrors the current G.I. Joe: Renegades cartoon series, director, Jon Chu does appear to have learned many lessons from this film's predecessor in the Stephen Sommers-directed Rise of Cobra when it comes to stylistic choices.
There are plenty of new Joe characters and old-school elements such as Cobra Commander in his metal mask, to even the Red Ninjas from the famous issues of the 1980's G.I. Joe comic book title. Much of what we see will ring familiar to fans who were less than impressed with the bizarre storyline changes and inorganic look of the first film.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation will hit theaters to prove that knowing is half the battle on June 29.
