The upcoming remake of The Evil Dead has just nabbed one of its co-stars in actor, Shiloh Fernandez. (Red Riding Hood, Skateland.)
While the exact identity of Fernandez's character is unknown, it should be noted that (in spite of the pic above,) he will NOT be playing Bruce Campbell's boomstick-busting, hand-chainsaw-slicing, Ash from the original series. In fact, his character will be sharing the spotlight with a female lead hero: A role that was recently vacated by Lilly Collins.
The film, directed by Uruguayan newcomer, Fede Alvarez, will still maintain its basic "cabin in the woods/deadite attack" theme, but will go about it in a reinvented way, sans, the iconic S-Mart soul-smasher from the trilogy of director, Sam Raimi. (Who will remain on board as a producer.)
It will be interesting to see exactly how Fernandez's role will play out, whether he'll be smashing ghouls with garden tools, or just be relegated to the role of "the boyfriend" who finds himself a male damsel in distress.
The film is currently penciled-in for April of 2013.
