With the live action Akira movie having received a greenlight, it appears that casting has already gone into overdrive. Apparently, the film is looking towards some credible names to add to its cast, specifically Gary Oldman and Oscar-nominee, Helena Bonham Carter.
Right off the heels of the recent report that Tron: Legacy star, Garrett Hedlund is on the short list of director Jaume Collet-Serra to star as rebel biker cyberpunk, Kaneda, a report from Twitch indicates that the Police Lieutenant-turned Commissioner of The Dark Knight and the Death Eater and Sirius Black-killer of Harry Potter may be brought on board this adaptation to add some major league acting chops to this still-questionable venture.
According to the report, Oldman is in line for the role of Kaneda's relentless pursuer, the Colonel and Bonham Carter is slated for the former test subject and mystic cult-leader, Lady Miyako.
If this is true, then it definitely raises the stock of this film, which, as far we know, will be bringing a number of questionable changes (including its very setting) to the canon of the original manga/anime film on which it was based.
