Wolverines, rejoice! It appears that the embattled Red Dawn remake film will finally hit theaters in 2012. Independent distributor, FilmDistrict will be pulling the project out of film purgatory for moviegoers at a date that's yet to be determined in the apocalypse year.
Fewer films have had the kind of difficulties getting distributed as this remake of the pivotal Cold War-era scare film. Having completed filming back in 2009, it has sat on the shelf for over two years as it dealt with issues like the bankruptcy of MGM Studio and a political firestorm over the use of the Red Chinese Army as villains, which prompted them to take the Lucas-like action of digitally altering the film's context to an invasion by the North Koreans.
One thing the film has going for it, is the early investment in the stock of one Chris Hemsworth. He will star as main character, Jed Eckert, who was played by Patrick Swayze in the original film. With Thor becoming a certified superhero sleeper hit, you can bet that much of the film's marketing will center on the now-bankable star.
Additionally, the cast is loaded with young stars like (former Wonder Woman) Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and A-list offspring, Connor Cruise.
Are you excited to finally get a shot at seeing this remake? Or, is it just another remake in a sea of regurgitated Hollywood properties?
