Dark Shadows Offers First Look At Johnny Depp

Photos have surfaced from the upcoming film adaptation of 1960's gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows showing how Johnny Depp will appear as dangerous, love-struck vampire, Barnabas Collins.

Working once again with director, Tim Burton, we immediately see that the signature Burton flair for all things eccentricly dark and goofy has been stamped onto the look of the character, who was originally portrayed by Jonathan Frid. However, the immediate thoughts that come to mind range from "Creepy Goth Kid" to a latter-day Michael Jackson.

Seen on his arm, is Bella Heathcote portraying main damsel, Victoria Winters.

Check out more pics below.

Barnabas was a proper gentleman who lived in the late-18th century, when he was turned into a vampire after being cursed from a powerful and jealous witch, Angelique (Casino Royale's Eva Green.)

After being imprisoned in a chained coffin for hundreds of years, he awakens in modern times, pulling-off the facade of an old-fashioned, successful gentleman by day, while finding victims on which to feed by night.

Oh, but don't jump to conclusions; Barnabas is ultimately a tragic hero, who is motivated by grief over the loss of his ex-love, Josette, who just happens to look exactly like the new resident in town, Victoria Winters.

...So with the story setting the proper context, take a look at these pics and decide for yourself if something is on or off about the direction. (Which has been said to be a mix of drama and campiness.)

Dark Shadows is set to hit theaters on May 11, 2012.

Whatever deal Johnny Depp made for Edward Scissorhands, I bet he wants to go back on it. He is seriously Tim Burton's bitch. Any pile Burton can get a green light on, Johnny Depp trips over himself to be in.
