Boba Fett Movie? Captain America Director Wants It

Captain America: The First Avenger director, Joe Johnston has seemingly revealed his desire to tackle a prospective Star Wars spinoff featuring the Galaxy's most famous Bounty Hunter, Boba Fett!

The director started off his career as a storyboard artist, working on the original Star Wars trilogy under George Lucas, and in an interview promoting this week's release of Captain America, asking if his former mentor, Lucas had seen the film, Johnston gave the rather unsolicited confession.

As Johnston tells Screenrant:

“You know if he wants to see it [Captain America], I would show it to him. I’m trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett.”

While someone simply wanting to direct a film is hardly news, the fact that Johnston, someone who may may be privy to info about future Star Wars plans, would even mention a Boba Fett film as a possibility, could be telling. Could he have the pull with Lucas to get such a project off the ground?

Yet, with Captain America in the spotlight this week, and more spinoff rumors swirling for Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes as Winter Soldier, it could just be some off-the-cuff wishful thinking on Johnston's part; the result of having to give countless press junket interviews.

Sure, we'd have to accept a new canon that Boba Fett somehow got himself out of the Sarlacc Pit, but would a spinoff film for the cloned Mandalorian Bounty Hunter be a good idea? Or Sacrilegious?

They need a movie featuring Boba Fett between StarWars 3 and 4. That would be excellent!

Boba Fett never died in the Sarlacc Pit. He eventually becomes the leader of the Mandalorians. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki /Boba_fett

Uh, Boba Fett never did die in the Sarlacc Pit. He fell in to it, yes, but also escaped. He eventually becomes leader of the Mandalorians. You gotta get your Star Wars knowledge in order there.

I would love to see the legacy era story of Boba Fett come to life on the screen. It would also give exposure to the awesome Mandalorian culture that not enough people know about, I mean he does become Mandalor after all.

I think if they delved more into his life between Geonosis and Empire Strikes Back it would be pretty cool.

They should do the Legacy of the Force series as a movie.

Why can't they make a Shadows of the Empire movie?

Ain't gonna happen. George Lucas already said no more Star Wars movies back in 2005. So the best Joe Johnston could hope for is to direct an episode of the upcoming live-action Star Wars TV series. When every George can do it at reasonable price for TV.
