Whether you’ve had several kisses, just one, or have yet to share your first kiss, today is the day to brush your teeth and lock lips. Actually, you should probably brush your teeth every day…but on to the list!
In light of International Kissing Day, we decided it’d be fun to share our favorite nerdtastic kisses from movie history. Some kisses are funny, some are kind of gross, but all of them are damn precious. Pucker up!
5. Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
The kiss that was seen all over the world. And also in space. This isn’t so much a nerdy kiss as it is unadulterated incest and just plain contextually awkward. SPOILER ALERT (for those that were born in the year 2007): They’re siblings. Twins, actually. And the best part of the video comes in not during the kiss, but when we see Chewbacca, Han, and C3PO’s reaction to their kiss. Brings the “awws,” the “luls,” and the “WTFs” all while making cinematic history. Classic, classic film. Classic, classic kiss.
All right, this one might be a little obscure for some, but who can pass up an opportunity to put Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. on a kiss list? In some sort of L.A. Noire-type misadventure, an agent and a hesitant crook end up having to share a passionately comical kiss in order to avoid trouble with the cops. And consequently, this happens.
3. James Bond and a nurse from Thunderball (James Bond)
While it would absolutely not fly today, this clip of Sean Connery wins our vote for the slickest way of stealing a kiss. Of course it would come from the one and only cad, James Bond.
2. Aragorn and Arwen from Lord of the Rings
Okay, so it’s not the original video, but it’s hilarious. Besides, the makings of the kiss, from Aragorn’s tactful pounce to Arwen’s magnificent beard-stroke, are still very prevalent despite the comical sound editing. Arwen and Aragorn’s beard is by far our favorite movie couple ever.
1. George Taylor and Dr. Zira from Planet of the Apes
The kiss might not be the fanciest or most romantic in the history of cinema, but Dr. Zira’s response to George is one of best and most memorable lines in the classic 60s film. Dr. Zira says he’s ugly, but it kind of looks like she liked it, no?
There it is. Our kiss list. There are thousands, nay, millions of kisses that are passionate, sweet, adorable, the like. But even the least extravagant of kisses is worth the airy dizzy spell and the butterflies in your stomach. So go out there and kiss someone nice!
