Rock Out with the Optek Fretlight Guitar

Oooh, shiny. Meet the Optek Fretlight guitar, a fancy instrument that features LED lights along its neck to show n00bs like me how to properly play. It's like Rock Band but with a real guitar that doesn't have clicky plastic buttons. Plus, it lights up!!!

Is this $300 guitar perfect for beginners looking to move from gaming to music? Chris Hardwick and Kevin Pereira will review the Fretlight on Gadget Pron for today's Attack of the Show episode.  Find out how many Seals of Approval they give this instrument, and also tune in for Alice Eve who stops by to talk about her new comedy, She's Out of My League. It all happens live tonight at 7:00pm.

It's a little cool, but what about alternate tunings? Verdict it would be cool if I could plug my guitars and use it. Take lessons, learn theory, and practice. This is a good baby step for people who are curious and don't know where to start.

Thanks for the review. Just a couple points that didn't get touched on:

    1. The Fretlight Studio software allows you to slow down songs or lessons/exercises so that you can follow then and learn at a pace that is comfortable for you.
    2. We have an entire range of guitars with different components - from beginner to stage, there's a Fretlight to fit all needs.

    Thanks!

Well I just watched the review. Not very fair - what was the alternative to the Fretlight method guys? A Costco Fender Starcaster is completely crappy compared to the Fretlight. Also, are you telling me a book of chords is a better way to go. You all stay with the 1950 method - I'll play my Fretlight anytime!

I can't bring myself to accept the fretlight guitar as gadget pron. These have been out for at least 15 years...

I wonder what people did before RockBandGuitarQueeroRevolution ?...OH, yeah learn the instrument through intuition and analysis of the music coupled with rocking out with your hombres. Im glad this annoying plastic-peripheral-sing-along is dieing, all be it, a slow death.

I have one! It is real - I didn't believe it at first but after i got, it's a damn good guitar. And it works - I'm playing stuff that would have taken many hours to memorize.

    Go Fretlight! Congrats
