Gadget Pr0n: Hercules DJ Console RMX
Posted By: Eugene Morton - Wednesday, May 21, 2008 4:37 PM

Looking to scratch like a professional DJ? You could rely on personal skill and hard work. On the other hand, you could just go out and get the Hercules DJ Console RMX. It’s a hell of a lot easier than putting in hard work to become really good at something.

Hercules DJ Console RMX

What You Need to Know

  • It's all done through USB and the bundled Virtual DJ software
  • You just plug it in to your computer (no power needed) and then plug in your RCA output to a speaker system; that's it
  • There are two outputs and two inputs as well as a mic input, so you can feed in analog or digital inputs
  • All the faders, buttons, and dials are clearly labeled
  • The Virtual DJ software is also really simple to use
  • It will calculate all your music's beats per minute, so one song will blend into another if you match their BPM
  • It visually represents the beats too so you can try and match up each peak in the music (represents the bass)
  • There is some lag between pushing buttons on the mixer and the software catching up
  • Serato's Scratch Live is a little bit easier to use and mix with, but the Virtual DJ software is pretty powerful. Our main gripe is that the trial version comes with it, not even the Pro
  • Preset buttons can loop parts of the music
  • Phase effects
  • Drum fills
  • Sync buttons flash with the beat so you can try and match tempos

Price

  • Similar products from Numark and others are $600-800
  • The software could be improved (and they could include the Pro version), but this really is one of the easiest solutions we've seen to do basic DJ-ing
  • $350
