Attack of the Blog The Loop: China's Internet Media Blackout
Posted By: Eugene Morton - Tuesday, March 18, 2008 2:44 PM

Last week, during a protest of the Chinese government by Tibetan demonstrators (in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa), violence erupted between the protestors and Chinese troops, followed by a swift internet blackout of media sites like YouTube and Google News in China.

Since then, the Chinese government has been systematically taking down other media sites, some suggest in an effort to prevent word of the violence from spreading. Will this trend continue or will China eventually scale back the increased media blackout to some degree?

To answer that question, we’ll welcome Boing Boing’s Xeni Jardin.

You SHOULD care! China is a world super power, with something like two and a half BILLION people. Not to mention the birth place of many things we Americans love, Such as Bruce Lee, fireworks, and noodles. Thanx 4 ur opinion, nonetheless.
