TV is changing forever, not because of some revolutionary new show or sub-genre, but because next year, America is making the leap from analog to HD programming. What this means is, you’ll be able to see all of your favorite TV shows in high definition, if you have an HDTV or set-top converter box, that is.
If not, kiss TV goodbye, because you won’t be able to pick up any over the air broadcasts. Fortunately, HDTVs are more popular now than they’ve ever been, but not everyone has one. Is most of America ready for the digital shift?
To answer that question, we’ll welcome the Contributing Editor for Engadget, Nilay Patel and Managing Features Editor for The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Belloni.

The switch is to digital not HDTV... how does G4 not know this?
in 2009 all cable will be digital cable, meaning you need a cable box from now on, this is not a switch to HDTV.
