The Loop: The New Web Police

If you’re a web pirate you’re already at odds with the Federal Government, the RIAA and the MPAA, now you have one more big entity gunning for you, AT&T. The phone and internet service provider is right now developing technology that will identify web surfers who download TV shows and movies illegally.

Though one can certainly understand why they would do it (all that piracy does take quite a bite out of bandwidth) some would argue it’s not really their place. Should AT&T police the internet?

To discuss this turn of events, we’ll welcome the Executive Director of Free Press, which coordinates Save the Internet, Josh Silver and Managing Editor for Silicon Alley Insider, Peter Kafka.

Hm. My ISP is AT&T in Los Angeles. I'm jumping. What alternatives are out there?

First and foremost, I have something to say about this "Internet police" thing going on. Secondly, I have to be careful what I said now because I don't know if I trust anybody anymore. And look at me, I'm not even ashamed to what I'm saying.......like if I was before. But anyway, I want to share somethig with you.....

I understand 100% why "AT&T" is doing this. But on the other hand, I don't even get it. What do they want to prove??? They think they got the answers???? I don't think so!!! I got the answers...

I don't want to give too much info but when we get "our movies" we get them in about 2 weeks in advance! I'm not talking about DVD's, I'm talking about movies that are in theaters! We get them weeks before it is released! I'm telling you, its not just about the internet, its society as well. Its either that or you just have to know the right people..........THATS IT, I'M GONNA LAY LOW TO WHAT I'M SAYING FROM NOW ON......no more secrets......just for now.

They'll still air Batman without issue- although I'm sure there will be a credit in recognition or some such for him. Batman's too big a title to not air, especially with how much positive hype his performance has received.

Now, the film he was still working on, on the other hand, will either die or need his role reshot unless he was fully finished, I suppose. But if his agents are on top of everything, I'd do my best to make sure Batman is his last film- it'll be the pinnacle of his career and a great way to be remembered.

(I personally loved his movie "First Knight" the best, but his turn as the Joker may even outdo that fun flick!)
