The way we enjoy media has changed drastically over the last decade. In this day and age, anyone with an internet connection can instantly get streaming video on their computer at any time with a minimum of effort.
However, the videos (from places like YouTube) are often low quality and hardly anything to write home about.
On the other hand, premium movie download services are starting to sprout up like weeds, offering entire movies that are decent quality at a good price. At the rate technology moves, can it be long before video streaming technology is perfected?
Will the cost and convenience of these premium, online movie services one day over shadow DVDs as the most popular medium for in home entertainment?

I have work at Blockbuster video for two years now, and I am a movie finatic. I love my movies. I seriously doubt that people are going to stop getting movies in their physical form. It is a part of the movie experience. Go to the video store, pick a flic or two, buy some candy and a coke and go home with those you want to love on and watch it. that is something that will never change. What's next, no movie theater, no opening nights, it's communisum!!!

I want the physical disc in my hand but a good alternative to the purchase in store is Pay Per View...you have the physical disc (but not the extras, which in most cases, I do not miss)...and it is simple to make a dvd box for the movie...hard to tell from the original...AND you can make extra copies!!! And for the price of under 4 bucks...a great deal! I have NO desire to download on the computer...

I think the physical medium will always prevail. Considering ALL demographics & ALL ages, the physical disc enforces standards, is simple to use, and is extremely portable. Downloads are simply that: convenience for the moment (and they take TIME!!). As for master copies: gotta' have the original mastered disc.
Hopefully discussions of downloads overcoming physical media will go away soon!

One more thing, someone once asked about downloading software and isn't iit the same thing. Answer, no it's not. With software there in a tangible construction, we get the info we do something with it. Just like with the mall dvd's or what other holographic collectable comes up. Mankind are hunter gatherers, we like to hold crap.

download sucks I hate it worse than renting from blockbuster or netflix via mail. What am I gonna do with just a bunch a pixel crap, where's the art, where's the package, where's the cool plastic you have to take ten hours to get the stupid movie out through. As annoying as all that crap is I miss it so down load never for me. You guys looking to intravenous your food soon too? gimme a break!!!

Now that you can plug new tv's into a laptop using a VGA cable, it's only a matter of time before these download and streaming services catch up and give us movies in hi-def and it just becomes too hard to resist. A wireless keyboard and mouse with a wifi router can potentially be much more convenient than a dvd can ever be.
