Don't want the hassle of running wires for a full surround experience, C|Net picks the winner of the Home Audio category and it's as easy as 1.1 with Philips HTS8100 Soundbar.

The HTS8100 is a virtual surround system that includes a single speaker measuring only five inches thick with a built-in upconverting 1080p DVD player.

Using Philips proprietary Ambisound technology, the single horizontal "sound bar" houses five integrated amplifiers. With some help from the external subwoofer, it creates a "full 5.1-surround sound experience through a one-piece, fully integrated, home theater system."

The HTS8100 will be on the market mid-2007 at a cost of $999.

If all-in-one is not your thing, the Sherwood Newcastle R-972 home theater receiver will not only blow your ears out with lossless audio decoding, but also uses HDMI 1.3 connectivity.

Including 6 HDMI 1.3 inputs, lossless audio decoding through Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio and a graphic onscreen user interface, the R-972 can be yours for $1,500.
