Chris Gore, indie-film-genius, Film Threat Webmaster, coauthor of The Complete DVD Book and stone-cold killa is back with his weekly delve into digital digression called DVDuesday:
Bubble
This tale of murder from director Steven Soderbergh stars non-actors in a brilliant, frightening and real film: A must see. The film is available on DVD and can be seen in Landmark Theaters and on HDnet. The DVD is loaded with extras including two commentary tracks and loads of behind the scenes. However, the success of releasing a film on DVD and in theaters simultaneously remains to be seen.
Verdict: BUY
Corpse Bride
Weak compared to Nightmare Before Christmas. Extras include behind-the-scenes, which feel like promotional videos, and there’s no commentary. In short: Not enough to justify a purchase.
Verdict: SKIP
Shameless Plug!
My Big Fat Independent Movie
The double disc edition is only at Best Buy and it is loaded: Two audio commentaries, a text commentary and a feature that allows you to watch the film with sound as if it were in a movie theater. If you like over the top, vulgar comedies, this is for you.
Verdict: I say it’s a BUY, but don’t take me seriously as I made it.

This is one of the few times I disagree with Chris Gore. I really liked Corpse Bride and thought it was on the same level as Nightmare Before Christmas(except for that the songs in Corpse Bride were forgettable. I think this should be a rent because of the lack of good extras(Chris is right about the videos being promotional). Hopefully there will be a better edition of this movie with better extras in the future.

The Corpse Bride extras do suck but I think it deserves atleast a rent.

My Big Fat Independent Movie is at Best Buy, the shameless plug now it has offically worked. Also when Ebert & Roeper reviewed Bubble, Richard Roeper mentioned releasing films at theaters,on DVD and the Internet will eventually be future of the motion picture industry.
