Ya know Sammy, Linux isn't for everyone. In fact, Linux on your iPod is down right crazy! But what if you could have a little more fun with your Pod than just those boring games like solitaire. In a few easy steps you can put Linux on there and the original Doom and be slashing zombie from hell in under 15 minutes.
Actually, I am ordering you to do it right now. Follow the directions below and assimilate your iPod into the world of iDoom!
- First, check your iPod firmware version. You need versions 1.0 or 1.2 for the colors to display correctly for Doom.
- To run Doom you need Linux installed on your iPod. The link for the 4G iPod Linux installer is here.
- Once you download the installer, the install is easy. Just press ‘Next’, choose whether or not you want the original iPod firmware or iPodLinux to boot by default (the other will boot if you hold ‘<<’ while the iPod boots) and then make sure to click the box to make sure you take a backup of your original iPod firmware.
- Boot linux to make sure it works.
- Reset the iPod and boot back to the original Apple firmware.
- Download the Doom files from ipodlinux.org here.
- Connect the iPod to your computer as a removable device so you can copy files to it (you may have to change a setting in iTunes to let you do this).
- Create a folder on the iPod root named ‘doom’ or something similar.
- Copy the extracted files from the ipodlinux download into this folder.
- Copy a doom .wad file into the same directory. (.wad files are what id Software compiled the main part of its early games into) If you have Doom 1 or 2 or download the Shareware you will see a .wad file in the install directory.
- Reboot the iPod to Linux.
- Open the filebrowser and go to hp\doom(or whatever you called it)\ and then click on the ‘doom’ file with no extension.
- It launches Doom!!!

i finally found the installer.heres how you find it.1st go to the 4G iPodLinux installer folder.then go to the same folder inside that folder.after that theres a folder that says 4G ipodlinux installer.app.click on contents.then macOS.click on the final link and you should find the installer.

Too bad I don't have an ipod eh? lol But anyways, speaking of doom on handheld thingys I got for my TI-83 calculator. Let's just say I was extremely bored during computer class and found it on the internet. Its in french but cool all the same, at least for a calculator, here's a link for those who care:

When installing Doom on your Ipod create a folder called doom in the root of the ipod. There put the doom file from the above site into the ipod's doom folder. You need to put a .wad file also in the ipod's doom folder. This .wad file can be found in the pc version of doom. The link in number 6 of ORouke's post contains doom1.wad.
Once those files are on your ipod go into podzilla then at the main menu go to flie browser, hp, then doom and once you are in the doom folder run the file 'doom' without the file extension.

These instructions did not work for me. The doom file is not for the ipod and the linux installer is for macs.
