UGM is done and it's beautiful!!

ORourke
38 Comments Posted August 5, 2005 - By Sean O'Rourke
That's it folks. The Ultimate Gaming Machine is done!  It's such a sickly beast of a machine.  The beautiful worlds of Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2 are so damn sweet and smooth.

Many, many weeks, and a tremendous amount of effort benind the scenes from the G4 Lab's Team put the UGM together.  They're the true heroes here. (Let's just say we had a small technical glitch 20 secs before we went to the segment and they saved us...mostly.) You can see a complete round-up of all their hard work from the week here.

But it doesn't end there Pepe.  From time to time we will upgrade the UGM to include the latest components available so it can maintain it's supreme ultimosity.

Happy Margarita Friday...and have a great weekend!

why can't they just instal a ram drive and install any games on that. it would make the UMG much faster. they might need 8GB of ram though

How come they didn't use Phase Change Cooling? It's really expensive but here's a review of it at pcstats.com:

I demand that on Margarita Friday's the cast must drink margarita's, alcoholic or not. If my demand is not satisfied, the skies well open and flaming N-Gage's will pummel the Earth until the ground tears apart and E.T. cartridges raise from the bowels of hell and wreak havoc on all creatures on this planet! Wow.....I am a really horrible person.

well i think it goes more like this for the ultimate gaming machine -- dual core (i like AMD/Intel), epox/asus PCIe MoBo of course, dual channel mem setup something sick like DDR600, access time is most important so what the heck a cheap scsi setup is best better than mkt hyped 10k sata (no matter what scsi is synch bus based and usually has more heads in the drive to bang out the reads and writes), i like the water cooling on cpu-vid-chipset, and most importantly a nasty vid card - 7800 GTX is kewl but honestly i have a 6800GT and sometimes wonder if image quality might be better on other cards ie Ati, SLI is 95% overrated. oh and come on folks i like unix/linux but its great for surfing & office apps -- show me a linux rig running HL2 and i'll reconsider ....... l8r all and btw gorilaz rule

you guys could of spent your money a hell of a lot better with a budget of 6000 dollars. Why spend money on a 10,000 rpm drive when you really don't need it? You should of spent more on the processor and graphics cards. and where are the full specs???

So, what. It just sits there, nothing happening to it, save for a couple people playing it now and again?

I'll gladly take it off of your hands for you.

A few suggestions for UGM updates:
    1. Stick-on bobble head dolls.
    2. Uber-comfortable chair.
    3. Screen saver of Sean Baby kicking the ever-loving crap out of Jack Thompson
    4. Screw water-cooled...two words:Liquid Nitrogen

    And a question...
Is porn better with 2GB of RAM?

Sorry guys, but the UGM will not be given away...well not for a while anyway. As we have stated in our articles, the UGM will be revisited when newer better parts become available. Look out for ATi's Crossfire when it becomes available to try to knock nVidia off of its throne. I had a great time building and tweaking the system over the last 2 months and am very happy you guys approve. Thanls for the kind words. Erik

I'd just like to see the major fights going on at G4 over who gets to play on it. And if they are going to give it away, they should hold a gaming contest where lucky contestants play against some insanely good gamer...top 25 or something. At least the winner would have earned it and would put UGM to good use.

they'll probably give it away in a contest or something. remember when Pat Norton made the cheapest gaming PC possible? he gave that away in a drawing. what's the point of having a great PC unless you give it away in a contest?

ha ha ha they arent going to give it away its g4 for god sake.they'd have to make a show for that kind of contest on its own like a fight to the death or somethin

I work for a GameStop. And I feel horrible, because I am a console gamer. I own all current gen consoles and handhelds, but because of this I've never had enough money to purchase a PC capable enough of playing decent Games. You know, other than solitaire and minesweeper. So, I figure, maybe I'll ask very nicely. Is there any possibility you great minds at G4 will hook me up with that awesome Ultimate Gaming Machine?

    Beautiful.
Loved the cheesy "Happy Hour"-style camera shots and the superfluous countdown joke.

Also, the User Created image looks a helluva lot better in color. Good on ya, AOTS!
