Has "the fat lady" finally sung for the Independence Day sequel? In an interview with Empire, director of the original film, Roland Emmerich may have effectively peed in the Cheerios of fans who have been anxiously awaiting the follow-up to the 1996 big-budget explosion-laden summer crowd-pleaser. The director sat down to discuss his plans for his upcoming Elizabethan-set film, Anonymous, which focuses on the age-old controversy of exactly who really wrote Shakespeare's great works? (My guess: It was either Christopher Marlowe or Wesley Willis.) However, when Emmerich was asked about the rumor-filled return to the Independence Day (or ID4) franchise, the director was oddly unambiguous with his answer. And that answer, unfortunately for fans, did not yield good news.
