Candy Thief Hits Police Car

Of the most insane things a criminal could do, stealing candy in a town where Willy Wonka owns the Police ranks high on the list.

In this case, after allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars worth of candy, his plan was to distract the Cops on the roof, then jump down, and do some kind of Matrix flip over the police car. -- A plan clearly formulated on an extreme sugar rush.

Akira Film Looking At Gary Oldman & Helena Bonham Carter

With the live action Akira movie having received a greenlight, it appears that casting has already gone into overdrive. Apparently, the film is looking towards some credible names to add to its cast, specifically Gary Oldman and Oscar-nominee, Helena Bonham Carter.

Right off the heels of the recent report that Tron: Legacy star, Garrett Hedlund is on the short list of director Jaume Collet-Serra to star as rebel biker cyberpunk, Kaneda, a report from Twitch indicates that the Police Lieutenant-turned Commissioner of The Dark Knight and the Death Eater and Sirius Black-killer of Harry Potter may be brought on board this adaptation to add some major league acting chops to this still-questionable venture.

According to the report, Oldman is in line for the role of Kaneda's relentless pursuer, the Colonel and Bonham Carter is slated for the former test subject and mystic cult-leader, Lady Miyako.

If this is true, then it definitely raises the stock of this film, which, as far we know, will be bringing a number of questionable changes (including its very setting) to the canon of the original manga/anime film on which it was based.

Red Dawn Remake To Finally Hit In 2012

A First Look At The Cast Of The Red Dawn Remake

Wolverines, rejoice! It appears that the embattled Red Dawn remake film will finally hit theaters in 2012. Independent distributor, FilmDistrict will be pulling the project out of film purgatory for moviegoers at a date that's yet to be determined in the apocalypse year.

Fewer films have had the kind of difficulties getting distributed as this remake of the pivotal Cold War-era scare film. Having completed filming back in 2009, it has sat on the shelf for over two years as it dealt with issues like the bankruptcy of MGM Studio and a political firestorm over the use of the Red Chinese Army as villains, which prompted them to take the Lucas-like action of digitally altering the film's context to an invasion by the North Koreans.

Farscape Coming To Blu-ray: Nerds Rejoice By Starbursting Into Flame

Farscape is finally making the long trek to Blu-ray, and it makes the nerd in me extremely happy. Full disclosure: I worked on Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars when I was at the Jim Henson Company, so I'm fairly biased. While this show was one of the ultimate science fiction experiences, it ultimate was cruelly canceled to make way for more Stargate. But hey, Star Trek came back eventually, so I'm still holding out hope.

The series will be available in both complete series and single season flavors, and includes 15 hours of bonus materials spread out over 20 Blu-ray discs, and will be available on November 15. For a full list of the features, head beyond the break and get your geek on. I hope Chiana and Jool are even hotter in HD.

Fifth Die-Hard Movie In The Works

It appears that the long-in-developement Die Hard 5 has finally landed its director. Taking the helm for John McClane's next circumstantial ordeal with terrorists, is Ireland's John Moore.

According to Deadline, both 20th Century Fox and star, Bruce Willis selected the director, known for Max Payne, The Omen, and the first Behind Enemy Lines film. The sequel will apparently shoot in Russia (where "terrorist racially profile you") and the studio is ideally looking to get filming before Willis is called away for the upcoming sequel to Red.

What kind of Die Hard movie will we get with John Moore?
